kaeya x gn!reader; fluffYou yawned loudly as you approached your home's entrance. A day's worth of commissions (and saving Pallad... again) was finally finished, and all you wanted to do at the moment was to curl up on your couch and take a nap. You decided to check your mail for the day and you noticed a dainty envelope inside. You reached your hand into the box and grabbed the letter. Opening your home's door, you took off your shoes, sat down, and opened the letter. The note was left by none other than the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonious, Kaeya.
You slipped the paper out of the envelope, reading it to yourself.
"Why, if it hadn't been for a certain someone's throwaway remark, I might have forgotten that today was my birthday-" You paused and rolled your eyes with a playful smile, knowing the said person was yourself.
"Which is just as well-- I haven't had any cause for any private celebrations for a long time. Hmm, how do you think I should approach a day such as this? Haha, relax, I'm just fishing for your opinion. I am, unfortunately, not well-versed in matters of this sort. How mysterious... when you're around, the truth just slips out of me at times. I must have had a glass too many, I fear. Still, I suppose a little honesty with oneself couldn't hurt. Want to have a few more drinks with me? I'll have the bartender bring you something non-alcoholic. Good drinks loosen lips, as they say. Don't worry, I have plenty of stories... and plenty of time.
-Kaeya."
You smiled at the birthday invitation and set it down. You checked your clock and saw it read 3 pm. At the bottom of the letter, it stated that if you happened to show up, he'll be at Angel's Share at the end of his work shift. That gave you plenty of time to get well rested and ready to spend Kaeya's special day with him.~ ~ ~
You rose from your slumber, stretching your limbs to wake yourself up from your dormant state. The clock showed that it was 7 pm, just one hour before Kaeya's shift ended. You took the alloted time to make yourself look presentable for Kaeya. The hour soon passed and you found yourself at the tavern you two met at. You took a seat at the bar's counter and ordered a bottle of Death After Noon wine for Kaeya and some cider for yourself, as you preferred non-alcoholic drinks. The door's bell chimed as it was opened, signalling a new customer arrived at the tavern. You turned your head to see the tall figure you've been waiting for. You waved him over to where you were sitting, to which he sat beside you.
"Well well, you actually showed up. I'm quite flattered to find that out," Kaeya smiled at you, resting his head on the back of his hand as he leaned onto the counter. "You even remembered my favourite wine, how sweet of you."
You chuckled at Kaeya's remark. "Why of course I remember, you're my best companion, you know," you smiled at him. "All drinks are on me tonight, it's your special day after all."
"My, are you sure (Y/N)? I was the one who organized this, after all," Kaeya asked for confirmation, only to receive a nod from you.
"I'm positive, enjoy yourself, Kaeya," your smile never faltered while speaking. Kaeya thanked you, and took a swig of his wine.
A couple of hours passed by and Kaeya was just the slightest bit tipsy. Nothing too major, but he definitely drank a good amount of strong wine. The fact of loose lips that Kaeya mentioned in his letter was definitely not a lie; he's been spilling stories and gossip about the people of Mondstadt. What he was going to say next was rather unexpected, though.
"You know, (Y/N), you're one of the first people who has actually cared enough to wish me a happy birthday," Kaeya looked down at the bar's countertop, tracing the lines in the wood with his fingers.
The statement completely took you by surprise. "Huh?" You questioned. "I would've at least thought that one of the Mondstadt girls who are smitten with you would've said something."
Kaeya shook his head no. "Nope, just you," He popped the 'p' in nope and sighed. "My life has been... full of rejection and abandonment. I feel like I can't trust people with information about myself since they'll just use it against me later on. You're the only person I can tell this to. I feel... safe around you. As if I could put my past behind me and finally open up to another person."
The look on your face was dumbfounded with a mixture of sadness. "Kaeya..." you were at a loss for words. His name was the only thing that slipped out of your mouth.
"Sorry, sorry. Too deep," Kaeya chuckled emptily, feeling as if he overshared.
"No, it's alright, I just didn't know you thought of me so highly. I'm glad you think of me that way, since I trust you too," you placed your hand on top of his as he looked at you with wide eyes.
The clock chimed midnight. Time sure flies by whenever you're talking to someone.
"Well, it's not my day anymore. This was a pleasure, (Y/N). Thank you for this," he smiled warmly at you. It wasn't his smug smirk he normally wore, but now a genuine smile.
"Of course, Kaeya. It was a fun night," you returned his smile, leaving a pouch of mora on the counter to pay for the drinks you two shared. You stood up from your stool and went to take your leave.
"Wait," Kaeya grabbed your hand to stop you. You turned to look at him with a puzzled look. "Would you.. like to spend the night with me?" He asked. "Not in a sexual way of course, unless you want it to be, I don't mind-"
"I would love to spend the night with you with no funny business," You cut him off, heat rising to your cheeks, tinting them a bright red. He chuckled at your reaction. You two walked to his abode hand in hand.
Although those three special words were never said that night, you two felt as if your hearts became one. You two knew that both of you harboured feelings for one another the moon shone down on you both.dear readers i'm so sorry i wrote another kaeya oneshot 😭 bare with me i am running out of inspo
