Chapter 35 - Zhan's and Yibo's Secret

Zhan and Yibo were having dinner in the dining room with everyone else when they heard over the radio that several vehicles were approaching. Immediately, everyone armed themselves and rushed outside. After all, this would not be the first attack they would have had to fend off, as Zhan and Yibo learned.

Zhan and Yibo also armed themselves and ran outside with the others. They stood there freezing in the prison yard waiting for new information. Everyone was very nervous because, as Yibo's parents told them only 20 minutes earlier, it had already been very close during the last attack because the attackers were better armed than they were.

But after three or four minutes, there was an all-clear. The radio said, "Relax, it's the general with his unit." Immediately, everyone cheered. Zhan hugged Yibo in joy and the two of them ran to the center of the courtyard to give Zhan's parents a proper welcome.

As soon as the cars arrived at the courtyard, Zhan's parents got out of the first car. Zhan rushed to them and embraced his mother first, then his father. And finally the three of them hugged before Yibo joined them after Zhan's mother asked loudly, "Where's my son-in-law?"

Then, once everyone had warmed up inside and eaten something, they sat together and listened to the general who told them that they had managed to clean up and secure a small village. "However, there are still some things to be done before we can let anyone move into the houses there." He said, as the first requests came in about when to start moving into the houses.

Next, in groups, they were told about the situation at the hotel and how they had been treated and kicked out. Last, Zhan and Yibo had told their story. First about their dangerous journey, the huge horde of vampires and finally what happened when they arrived at the hotel. Zhan's father was beside himself with rage and bawled a few orders to a handful of soldiers. They should make their way to the hotel in the morning and reconnoiter the situation.

Then came questions like, how should they get the hotel back under their control, after all, no one would let them in, and the guards would surely shoot anyone who got too close to the wall. And this was followed by wild discussions and speculations.

But finally Zhan and Yibo stood up and asked everyone around to be quiet. Because they have a secret that they want to share with everyone now that Zhan's parents are also there.

Zhan was the first to speak, "There is a way we can get into the hotel unseen."

"How?" asked the others.

"Through a maintenance and delivery tunnel. The entrance to this tunnel is about a kilometer and a half from the hotel in the forest. Yibo and I know where the entrance is. Through this tunnel you can get under the engine room of the hotel. Then there are two possibilities. Either you go into the engine room, or you take the Secret Corridor, which leads to my great-uncle's apartment, which no one but Yibo and I knew about, and there is the possibility of getting into my great-uncle's office. I would suggest the apartment, yes, because in it there is another private office from which you can monitor the entire facility. And, you can also access everything in the hotel from there, even the engine room!" Explained Zhan.

Yibo added, "Zhan and I didn't found the maintenance tunnel or the secret passageways in the blueprints of the hotel. We discovered a secret door in Zhan's great-uncle's office rather by accident, and that's how we got into the secret passage. We therefore also found the fully furnished apartment of the great uncle. There, in his private office, we found several diaries in which the great uncle recorded everything about the construction of the hotel. In them also the information about several secret passages and the maintenance tunnel."

The maintenance and delivery tunnel was actually created only because in the very first week at the beginning of the construction work, thieves stole all the construction equipment and building materials from the compound. My great uncle wanted to prevent this from happening again. So he ordered a one and a half kilometer long tunnel to be dug leading into the hotel. At that time it was just one big cavity, which is now the engine room. Yibo and I took one look at this maintenance and delivery tunnel. It is massive. It is about 2 meters high and four meters wide. Enough room to move around freely there. Also, the entrance to the tunnel, is equipped with a security lock, the code of which only Yibo and I know." Zhan continued.
