Chapter 50 - Carefree Life (Last Chapter)

A/N: We are now reaching the last chapter of this book. I am quite amazed that I actually came up with 50 chapters, although this book was originally intended by me to have not more than 30 chapters. I really enjoyed thinking up new things for this story. And I'm glad that many of you liked this book so much. Thanks to you guys. Because thanks to you, I had even more fun writing it.

Chapter 50 - Carefree Life

For three months now, Zhan and Yibo have been living on Paradise Island with their son and are no longer just three, but four. Because when Jenna and the others came to the island 2 months ago, they also brought a little orphan girl with them, which they found on their long journey to the island in the middle of a destroyed village. Little Mia, like A-Yuan 4 years old, is now the fourth member of the Wang-Xiao family.

But let's start at the beginning.

It's been two and a half months since Jenna contacted the islanders and said they would be leaving that night. Scouts have seen several large groups of the black creatures gathering in the ruins of the city. Jenna explained that the scouts assumed that there must be more than 100 creatures already. And Jenna was sure, soon they would attack the hotel.

Therefore, they held a meeting to discuss how to proceed. Jenna immediately said she would take the children and anyone else who wanted to go with her. The soldiers indicated that they also wanted to accompany Jenna. Some others, however, decided to stay at the hotel. Mainly older people who did not think they could make such a long journey.

One of them said, "We'll stay here. We are safe in here. And a lot of us older people don't mind if we can't go outside." Other hotel residents of various ages joined him. They, too, did not want to leave the hotel. It is their home and they feel safe there.

That same night, all those who did not want to stay in the hotel gathered at the now more than 30 hot air balloons and started their long journey from the hotel, to the island. And because they had to make, differently than planned, nevertheless again and again intermediate landings, their journey lasted whole 2 weeks.

2 weeks in which they saw places and cities that were only ruins, or looked as if nothing had been seen there. But as soon as they took a closer look, they realized that there was also more destruction and dead people there than they could see before.

And during one of these stopovers in which they hid in a forest next to which there was a destroyed village, while searching the remains of the village, in the midst of garbage, they found a little dirty girl hiding from them in a barrel, full of fear. Only with a can of ravioli they managed to lure the little girl out.

But as soon as they tried to touch little Mia, she panicked. They stayed there for two days looking for her parents, but in the end they only found the bodies of two young men who had probably been lying there for a week.

Jenna then somehow managed to get little Mia to join her in the hot air balloon and they were able to continue their journey. A few days later, they finally reached the island, where Zhan and Yibo were already eagerly awaiting them.

Little Mia cautiously peeked out of the basket when they landed and the first thing she saw was Zhan, Yibo and little A-Yuan. And when little Mia saw them, the shock she was obviously suffering from suddenly seemed to be gone. She cried and screamed bitterly. Zhan and Yibo immediately ran to her, thinking she was hurt. Zhan lifted her out of the basket and the little one clung tightly to him and just cried for minutes.

A-Yuan stroked her head and said, "You are my sister now. Daddy and Dad will take care of us."

Little Mia looked to Yibo and now let him hold her too, while she let A-Yuan hold her hand. When Jenna wanted to join them to talk to Zhan and Yibo about Mia, how and where they found her, she clawed at Yibo so tightly that he even had little bloody prints from her fingernails in his skin.
