Part 29 - Separated from the group

Zhan and Yibo properly guided the driver so that he could find his way to the empty new apartment building without any problem. They only stopped a few times on the way to get car batteries and a car for the commander to drive behind the bus. He said that it might be good, in an extreme case, to have another car available.

When they arrived at the apartment building, it was as Zhan and Yibo had expected. Nothing had changed. Only the dead gray creature that had been killed by those two black creatures was no longer to be seen. But neither was the black creature that had been attacked by the gray ones.

They were all spread out in two apartments, six in each apartment. Zhan and Yibo were back in the furnished apartment and were pleased to see that there was indeed still running water, which could even be heated thanks to some car batteries. They could even use it to heat two stovetops and heat their food. To celebrate, they had pasta with tomato sauce and pieces of meat from a can.

After dinner, they contacted the survivors in the bunker again. The commander said that it was time to get to them, because the situation was getting more and more critical for the survivors there. He planned to bring the survivors here to the apartment building, have them examined and treated by Zhan. To give them a day or two of rest and then return to the hotel.

Neither Yibo nor Zhan were enthusiastic about being left alone in the apartment building to wait for the soldiers and the survivors. Not that they were keen on maybe running into a group of vampires trying to get into the bunker. But they didn't think it was a good idea for the group to split up.

Later, when Zhan and Yibo were in the apartment's bedroom, they sat by the window and watched the stars in the sky. They talked about how there might be people among the survivors, they might know them. Yibo knew, of course, that Zhan still feared that Lee would eventually show up. That she wants Yibo back and is another person who wants to drive a wedge between him and Zhan.

Yibo, however, didn't get tired of explaining to Zhan that he loves him and certainly won't give up just because his ex might suddenly be there. But Yibo has also been a little worried lately. Because he knows that Zhan also had a girlfriend back then. The two had separated, but this ex-girlfriend now also lives in the hotel and had asked Yibo several times about Zhan.

Zhan had assured Yibo, however, that no matter what happens, he would never again start something with this woman. For one thing, he didn't love her. For another, she had cheated on him. And as the most important point, Zhan stated that he loved Yibo and no one else. But now, since Zhan's ex is staying at the hotel, he can understand Zhan's fear about Lee even better.

And Yibo said to himself, if Lee really shows up someday, he will tell her right away that he is with Zhan. He has never been so afraid of losing someone as he is with Zhan.

Seeing how pensive Yibo was, Zhan leaned on him and gave him a kiss. "We'll stay together no matter what. No one can separate us." Whispered Zhan, as if he had read Yibo's mind.

"You're right Zhan. No one can separate us anymore." Replied Yibo and kissed Zhan affectionately.

As the evening progressed, it also got colder and clouds moved in, bringing new snow again. Zhan always loved it when it snowed. But now he wished for the warm summer days back when they didn't have to freeze all the time. "I'm sure it's very nice and warm in the hotel now." Said Zhan as Yibo put a thick blanket around himself and Zhan.

"I think so, too. And the commander suspects it will get even colder in the next few days. I guess he used to study meteorology a lot, so he can predict the weather."

"Yes somehow I heard something like that too. I guess he was a weatherman before he decided to enlist in the military one more time."

"Do you think the fake survivors keep trying to trick us?"
