Part 17. You can't get rid of me

When Zhan reached their next destination, he woke Yibo and got out of the car. It had still been dark and he was standing under a tree, which looked really scary in the light of his flashlight. 

Around them were large open spaces, with tall grass and trees. No building far and wide. And once again Zhan realized that the map they have is probably much more useless than they thought. If they were to follow the map, they would have to find another gas station here. But there is nothing but nature here.

Yibo looked around, still dazed from sleep, and asked Zhan where they were. "We have arrived at our destination. So, there where we were going to spend the night next. But as you can see, there's nothing here." Explained Zhan.

"Damn. Where are we going to spend the night then? Can we make it to the next place before it gets daylight?"

"No way. Look at the clock Yibo. I'm sure it's only thirty minutes now before the sun comes up."

"Damn. Then we'd better see about finding something here somewhere among the trees."

Zhan looked at Yibo and saw how dazed he still was from sleep. Then Zhan grinned and said, "Well, I don't think that's a good idea. They said in the weather report that it's supposed to rain."

"Really? Damn, what are we going to do now?"

"Maybe sleep in the car? It doesn't always have to be true what they say in the weather report, but if it does, I don't want to sleep out in the open sky."

"Me neither." Yibo replied. Then he looked at Zhan thoughtfully and grumbled, "Oh yeah wow great, weather report. I get it now. Thanks for pranking me."

"You're welcome, anytime. Come on, come on. I found a tent in the other gas station and sleeping bags. Maybe we can find some trees where we can pitch the tent and not be so noticeable."

"Zhan, I think we should find a solid roof over our heads. I really think now that the weather is going to be uncomfortable today. Do you see the clouds? And I think I just saw lightning back there."

Zhan focused on the direction Yibo was pointing and then it happened again. There was lightning. And as warm as it had been in the past few days, and after the last thunderstorm had been practically ineffective, it could mean that there was still a lot in store for them today, weather-wise.

Again Zhan looked at the almost useless map and shook his head. On it, he found nothing close enough to reach in the time before daylight displaced the darkness. Then he turned around in a circle with his flashlight and again there was nothing to be seen. Nothing except a remnant of an old house wall.

Finally, Yibo had enough. He got into the driver's seat in the car and told Zhan to get his butt in the car. Zhan got in, Yibo immediately started the engine and sped off. Without paying attention to the map and just following his instincts, Yibo sped back onto the road and even as it got brighter, he didn't give up.
