It was 1:00 am when we decided to finally leave Matt's house. We were the last ones there, seeing as Jim and Matt have been friends since birth, and it wouldn't be the first time we were there all night.

We walked home, seeing as we had both drank a little and we lived near by anyway.

"Babe, we're vampires now, we should get used to staying up all night. Let's go and have some fun in the woods." He said with his cute little smirk that assured me he wasn't tired at all.

"The woods? At this time of night? How could that be any fu-" Before I could finish, he lifted me up and put me on his shoulders a way a father would to his 5 year old.

"Hang on tight baby girl!" He took off at vampire speed through the neighborhood and didn't stop until we were deep into the woods.

By the time he stopped I had my arms wrapped around his head holding on for dear afterlife.

"You were scared? We weren't even going that fast." He laughed at me.

"I...I wasn't scared, I just, didn't want to fall. That's all." I said quietly.

"You don't trust me? Babe, come on. You gotta be kidding me." He stared at me.

"No no no, of course I trust you." I said softly, hoping he wasn't upset.

"Shhh." He said.

I looked at him and cocked my head. Why was I being told to be quiet?

"So, now what? The woods proved to be not so f-" There was a large crack as if someone stepped on a stick, and I could immediately feel the presence that Jim had heard before me but neither of us could see where it was coming from.

"Shhh." Jim warned again before lifting me up off the ground again and taking us out of the woods with the same speed as which we entered.

We stood there at the entrance to the woods, waiting, listening. We had no clue what was going on until a wooden bullet went whizzing past my left shoulder. Hunters. I screamed as they hit me, all five of them. Hopefully Jim went in and was able to make a meal out of the soul who did this to me before he was hurt, or else there was no way I was making it out of this one alive.

Jim's POV

We shouldn't have stopped. There was no reason for me to wait. I should've just gotten her home to where it was safe.

All these thoughts rushed through my head as I drug my girlfriend to the edge of the woods and ran in after the beast who did this to her. I never did find him, but he didn't find me or Kate again either.

Or so I thought, but by that time, I wasn't alone anymore. Stefan and Damon rushed to my side, both giving me a reassuring glance as we zero'ed in on what sent the wooden bullets into Kate's torso.

"Go fight him." Stefan whispered to me.

I felt Damon give him a glance that said 'Are you kidding me?' and I hesitated.

"I said, go fight him." Stefan whispered again. "If you want to be considered a brother to me and have my hand of protection over you, you will go take him on by yourself. If you don't go prove yourself I'll leave the woods with your precious girlfriend, and let you fend for your self. I want to see how you fare against him, and if you trust me enough to listen, I'll make sure you don't get your ass beat and both you and your girl will survive."

I sighed and had a moment of panic as I let my body rush toward the unsuspecting human. I read his mind as I flew toward him and as far as he knew he had killed all of us.

"Wrong-o!" I tapped him on the back of his shoulder and dashed around him as he turned around. In one swift motion, I snapped his neck and began draining him of his blood.

"Woah there newbie. Save some for us." Damon walked over from where he and Stefan were hiding.

"You mean save some for you, Damon." Stefan said, visibly irked. "Good show, newb. Now lets go take care of Kate and wean you off human blood."
