Shikamarus pov
"hey shikamaru can I talk to you alone" ino said urgently. It came out of nowhere so it kinda threw me off.
"I leave you both to it" choji walked away with a bag of crisps.
I let out a sigh "what do you want ino?"
"not here. Let's go get lunch together. My treat" she smiled at me. I was taken aback. It's not often ino pays for my food. Usually she's looking me or choji to pay for her food. Somethings up!
We took a seat at our lunch table and ate together. It was peaceful until...
"shikamaru you don't really have a girlfriend do you"
I nearly choked on my food. How did she figure it out? Ok I gotta stay calm. She'll become suspicious if I don't!
"I never claimed to ino. I just said I had a lover"
"yeah I guess it was just me jumping to conclusions" she laughed nervously.
I let out a sigh of relief. Looks like I'm in the clear-
"a boy called neji hyuga had gone missing recently. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you shikamaru?"
My blood ran cold. She's reading me like a book. If this was anyone else I would just kill them but this is ino. She's my childhood friend and she helped me through so much. I can't just kill her like a animal! So what do I do? How do I keep neji safe and with me!
"no ino I know nothing about that" I got up and tried to walk away but ino grabbed my wrist.
"please shikamaru don't keep secrets from me" she yelled with tears in her eyes "I've never judged you before. I never judged you for your crazy ass mother and the things she put you through. Whatever you've done now you can trust me to help you through it!"
I paused for a second. She has been amazing help to me throughout my life. Maybe I can trust her with this.
I turned to her with a smile "ok ino let's go visit my place"
