15-The Trouble With Touring

DAY ONE: CAMP FLOG GNAW

Tonight was the first show of the tour at Tyler's Camp Flog Gnaw festival. I was nervous but also excited to be performing my set. I worked super hard to make sure it goes smoothly because the last thing I want to do is embarrass myself in front of thousands of people. I'm glad I have Domonique and Michelle to come with me for comfort and to keep me sane.

While we were in my trailer, we were running through my set and doing vocal warm-ups. They're no singers but they were doing it to comfort me. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. The tour manager stuck her head in the door and told me I was on in two minutes. We all grabbed our things and got on the golf cart that took us to the stage.

Domonique: (hands Key a bottle of water) You're gonna kill it out there girl!

Michelle: (shrugs) I just have to say this...After your set, I'm going back to the trailer because I only came to see you.

Domonique: Okay! I got them! Y'all gotta make it fast. Say Hi to Key!

Domo turned her phone toward me and the rest of the Dreamerz (Demetrius, Khadijah, Angelo and Kenneth) were on the screen making a shit ton of noise, cheering.

Angelo: (shouts) KEY!!

Khadijah: We're proud of you Key!

Demetrius: Go out there and show them how the 313 does it!

Kenneth: Break a leg!

Akeylah: (giggles) Thank you guys! I love and miss you so much!

Dreamerz: We miss you too! Love you!

With that, I took deep breath then skipped out onto the stage as my band started playing the bass chords to "Gangster" and before I knew it, My set was over and the crowd cheered at I curtsied and blew a kiss then exited stage left. I ran into my girls' arms and we freaked out. We were excited considering this was the first time I played for a crowd this big.

I convinced the girls to come over with me to the "Camp" stage where the bigger artists perform because I wanted to watch the rest of the performers. Knowing Tyler would be last since he is the main event, we would leave then. I was still standing firm in what I told him. I needed space so for now I want to keep my distance. Who's to say what will happen as tour progresses. The girls and I linked arms so that we would stay together when everyone started moshing depending on who was on stage. After all the performers went, we began to weave our way through the crowd and made it back to the golf cart. As we were getting on, Tyler's golf cart pulled up and he prepared to go on stage. He had Jasper and Travis with him. He happened to look back and our eyes met. I quickly averted my gaze and looked down at my phone. I felt this was going to get more difficult to keep up with.

DAY FIVE: FRESNO, CA

The girls and I were out having lunch at "On A Roll Sushi" and having a little girl talk while we waited for our food to arrive.

Michelle: (nods) So, you guys are obviously keeping tabs on Tyler. How's that going?

Domonique: (rolls eyes) Oh, Key's got her walls up so high, it's like Fort Knox.
