"Give me the rest of the money, and you and the baby will live," said the voice that I thought I'd heard the last of one year ago in Tokyo.
"Excuse me? What makes you think I'd give you anything after what you did to Han?" I swallowed as my heart pounded in my chest. I was sure he somehow knew Han was alive, but I couldn't let that slip in case there was a slim chance he didn't.
"Audrey, you think I'm that dumb?" He laughed as he began to speak again. "I know Han's not really dead. I discovered that for myself. Now that I know he isn't, I'm coming for the money that is rightfully mine."
"Technically speaking, it's not your money. It's your uncle's money," I said as I tried to remain calm as I sped around the room, tossing clothes in a backpack I'd ripped from the closet. "It never was yours."
There went that stupid psychotic laugh that I was always hated. God, he pissed me off.
"We were supposed to be business partners, Audrey," I gritted my teeth when he said my name again. "He stole from me. He stole from my uncle. I thought it was all over that night when I flipped his car in the intersection, but to my surprise, he wasn't dead."
I was letting him go on about Han's "death" in the background while I quickly gathered some more things to stuff in a bag. Considering he thought he was the one who killed Han, it appears that nobody told him the whole story, which means what Han said about Deckard working for Takashi's uncle was incorrect. I couldn't wait to tell him that one...when I was done being pissed off at him.
"Yeah, I bet that came as quite a shock to you," I laughed as I ran downstairs quietly with my bag in my hand that contained some clothes and some of the cash that Takashi thought he so rightfully deserved. "Given that you saw his bleeding body before the car blew up...that must've been pretty traumatizing."
"Stop trying to get inside my head. Just hand over the money, and you and your precious little baby won't get hurt, okay?" Takashi chuckled. "You can't run from me. I have men closing in on you as we speak."
"That somehow does not surprise me," I said. I was truly panicking at that moment, but if I let him see any sign of weakness, that would just make everything easier. "You had men everywhere."
He chuckled again as I tossed the iPad in the seat of my Equinox and jammed the key into the ignition. He was going to hear the car start up, but maybe if I got a head start, they wouldn't be able to find me. Or so I thought.
"My men couldn't get you out of the way every time I tried. Han had you under lock and key. Everywhere you went, there you were. But now that he's gone with Mr. Nobody again, you're an easy target," He spoke, seeming to ignore the ignition as it started up and I pulled out of the garage.
"That's false," I laughed as I hit the button to close the garage. "I wasn't under lock and key. He wasn't abusive, he was protective. He never hit me, never yelled at me, never did anything to hurt me emotionally or physically. He loves me. I don't think you know what that's like though, to be loved."
"I wouldn't go too far if I were you," He warned as he laughed again. "I told you that my men were closing in."
I mocked him under my breath as I continued to drive. I wasn't the best anyway, but Dom always used to give me a couple lessons, and so did Han when I still lived in LA. At that moment, I was thankful for those.
"Yeah, I know," I said as I glanced at the iPad in the seat, hoping that I'd wake up and this would all be some kind of sick nightmare. As far as I could tell, though, I was awake. "I don't listen very well."
I hadn't done much driving around Australia, given we hadn't been there more than a few weeks, so I had absolutely no idea where I was going. I just wanted to get as far away as possible.
