George looked intensely at the serene face of his child, who in turn look up at him she was indeed a very beautiful new born. "So, what happened outside?" Charlotte asked he looked up at Charlotte "PUT THE PROTECTION SPELL BACK ON FIRST" George demanded firmly "ok consider it done" she replied "well firstly" he began "I didn't change until I needed to, but I presume I have Anthony to thank for that, secondly I changed back as I was coming into the house" he told them both a good deal calmer now "but more stranger than anything, was that the other Werewolves came to my aid when the Vampires got into the yard, I mean they didn't attack me, they defended me, I mean that was always the unwritten rule between Werewolves but since my declaration to Ruby " George continued then turning to Charlotte "I thought the prophesy told you that Unity was an unholy disaster for humanity?" He asked "ah well thankfully even prophesy can be wrong Charlotte stated "the lady Alcina, my mother & our grand high Sorceress & the head of all Witches, told me that Unity would actually save both our worlds from total annihilation by the dominating Vampire, how true that is remains to be seen" Charlotte finished trying to sound upbeat, (when all she could really concentrate on was the fact that as she saw it her time here in the world of man was nearly at an end). George again looked down at Unity, she had soft peach fuzz film of strawberry blond hair, but more shocking were her eyes, the brightest of blue & and were she should have had black pupils, she had piercing deep red, a startling feature soft baby pink skin in every way like a human baby, until you saw her eyes, but despite her eye colour they conveyed nothing but innocence & purity. As he handed the child back to Ruby, Charlotte seeming to have read his thoughts said "I can address her eyes, so as not to attract too much attention, Ruby took Unity and put her to her breast to feed, not entirely sure if Unity would feed or if she needed blood. George didn't really know where to look so feeling embarrassed he left the room." Do not worry Ruby your body will provide for Unity" Charlotte said having sensed Ruby's apprehension. Continuing to fuss about them both as Ruby cooed & Unity suckled.
"So, do you think that the Werewolves are on our side now?" Ruby asked Charlotte whilst she was fussing about. "Well if you assume that this night's events are a benchmark, then yes it would appear that the Werewolves allegiances have shifted, but I am not confident at the moment" Charlotte replied "I guess we will just have to wait and see what transpires" she added. After Unity had fed, Ruby winded her & settled her down in the bassinet that George had fetched down from the attic room, then she went downstairs to the kitchen were George sat patiently waiting, as she walked in George jumped up & swept her into an embrace, giving her a long lingering kiss before backing away "Well done my sweet, I am so proud of you, she is perfect" he said affectionately "thank you my love" Ruby replied, looking lovingly into his eyes then the warmth in her face was replaced with fear "do you think we'll all survive?" Ruby asked quietly "ah don't you worry yourself, we of course will survive, as I told you last year" he stopped & thought......"erm, no over 200 years ago when we were over on the fresh cut grass, I won't allow anything, be it from heaven or hell, to come between us, or Unity for that matter, I will always see you two safe, nothing & I mean nothing will ever harm you both!!!" George said defiantly "how are you feeling now that Unity is here? He asked her "well I must say thankfully I didn't have to endure a 200-year pregnancy, but following that mammoth labour, I'm so relieved that it's over and she is ok" Ruby answered with a huge sigh of relief "but I don't mind telling you, that I am worried I'm still not used to being in sunlight, & I don't know that I like being or feeling so vulnerable" she said in anxious tones. "look my love" George began reaching a comforting arm around her "not only have you been perfect for the last nine months, but for 17 years you were human, so your time as a Vampire is only a fraction of your life, and now you are better & stronger than any human or Vampire" he finished, then added "& besides no harm will come to either of you, I will see to it." "Thank you, my darling warrior," Ruby replied looking & sounding a little more at ease "now I think I'd like some sleep" she said, "sleep but we haven't slept properly for 200 years or so?" George responded, " I know but Charlotte can keep an eye on Unity & truly be my daylight protector" Ruby smiled "ok" said George, happy that she was willing to rest after her ordeal " but dawn is not for another 2 hours" he added "never the less I could sleep after one of your hearty northern breakfasts, I'm starving" Ruby retorted humorously. So, George put together the biggest breakfast, of 2 rashers of thick crispy bacon, 2 sausages, grilled tomatoes, 2 sunny side up fried eggs, black pudding, sauté potatoes, a bucket of tea & several rounds of buttered toast. All three of them sat and ate leaving not a crumb. After they had eaten Ruby & George went to bed & after nearly 200 years for once they both really slept, & using magic Charlotte kept a watchful eye over them all.
