Chapter 46 Back in the World of Man

In the village of Loxwood in the year 2010, Ruby, a slim lady in her twenties with brown hair, stood about 5ft 1 inches, oh & she was also a day walker, that is to say a Vampire who was able to walk in daylight. Along with her young daughter Unity who at 15, shared in her mother's beauty with long shoulder length light strawberry blonde hair, had both moved into Loxwood farmhouse to be with Unity's father George the young man of 26 with short cropped flaxen hair, & a sturdy solid frame, he was a Werewolf & as well as Ruby, had been born in the 1800's & had spent the last 200 years somewhere in the ether, he had reemerged assuming the body of his descendant Anthony when his daughter Unity had been born.

Ruby had left her job in Guildford, an advertising & marketing firm where both she & her best friend Charlotte had worked, so she could concentrate on raising Unity, & as a family they all worked in the deli bar that was attached to the farmhouse, then in the evening George & Theon, a close friend & pack member of Georges from Jamaica. who stood about 6ft 6 tall & almost as wide with muscle with a voice as deep as a bottomless pit, he too was a Werewolf so between them concentrated on defending the farmhouse, from the nightly attacks by Vampires & their daylight protectors the Witches. Fortunately, the protection spell cast by Charlotte before she left to defend her own dimension of Witches, appeared unbreakable so George & Theon just felt they needed to be there all be it in their human form, in case a Vampire did get in. This never happened so they for the most part just watched as the Witches cast pointless spells at the wall of protection Vampires waiting in futile anticipation of being able to get in. then for three days a month when the moon was in its fullest the rest of Georges pack would all join in as Fully blown Werewolves & they would attack the Vampires to try & reduce their numbers.

The farmhouse was set back from the village center a sandstone-built building with two further barns, one that was open sided & the other with full length wooden doors both along with the farmhouse formed an enclosed courtyard with a 5-bar farm style gate & attached to the other side of the main building was the deli, that along with breads & cured meats produced by the farmhouse also sold locally grown & farmed products. Unity now went to school in Guildford, Ruby & George tried wherever possible to keep their daughters life as a child, as normal as they could, well as normal as nighttime visits from blood sucking Vampires & Witches, not forgetting the fact that your mother was a Vampire & your father a Werewolf. Not that thanks to Charlotte she knew this.

On the morning of Unity's 16th birthday she walked into the kitchen & both her mother & father looked on proudly as her face lit up for on the center of the huge kitchen table were a stack of presents & cards, Unity made for the presents to begin opening them "Woohw not so fast young lady first we eat" said Ruby sternly. Unity's face fell into a frown "that is not to say you can't open this one" came the booming reassuring voice of Theon as he handed her a gift, Unity's face lifted into a smile again "oh uncle Theon thank you" she said excitedly as she took the gift from him. She looked pleadingly at her mother, who with a smile gave her an approving nod, she smiled & tore off the wrapping from the small gift inside was a silver Wolfs cub head with its mothers head appearing to protect it on a silver link chain "oh uncle Theon its beautiful" she said asking him to help her put it on which he duly did.

Unity & Theon sat next to the pile of gifts whilst George & Ruby set about laying out the birthday breakfast. A full English fry up, pastries, cold cuts of meat, cheeses, fruit, a mountain of toast with coffee, tea & juices, Unity had never seen so much food, Theon however felt like he had just won the jackpot, George explained that they were expecting a great deal of well wishers to be popping in.

As they all sat & ate "Unity it is time that you knew everything, there is much that you've missed out on" Ruby said a little nervously, furtively looking at George for support. Unity stopped with a fork full of food just as she was about to put it in her mouth, her eyes narrowed suspiciously "oh really mumma" she began "I mean I know that things around here are sometimes odd, but what exactly is it that I'm missing" Unity finished firmly, a little frustrated but also apprehensive. Ruby looked between her daughter & George, she had been dreading this conversation, she & George had discussed it at length & decided that Unity needed to know the whole truth now, as she was about to come of age & her true nature would surface. "you must understand, this is not a conversation, either of us were keen to have on your birthday, but to be fair we have been left with no choice" she said quietly. "JUST TELL me MOTHER" Unity shouted slamming her free fist on the table, & standing quickly, George omitted a low growl, which made Unity stop still "there is no need to raise your voice to your mother!!" he said quietly but decisively. She sat back down slowly looking contritely at her mother "sorry" she whispered Ruby then told Unity all about herself, her father her aunt Charlotte, the prophesy & what she was & how she was destine to bring peace. The whole time George kept the juice flowing & Unity sat there passively open mouthed trying to absorb all she was hearing. It occurred to Unity, that although she thought nothing could shock her, this clearly did.

"SO" Unity began when Ruby had finished clearly shaken by her mothers revelations "let me get this straight" she continued taking a huge breath "my mother's a Vampire although not my fathers a Werewolf although.... Not & both of you were born in the 1800's making you over 200 years old & I'm a hybrid & I'm destine to bring peace to humans Werewolves & Witches who live in another dimension & are led by my auntie Charlotte oh who isn't actually called Charlotte but Alcina & a lady no less" Unity finished taking another huge breath.

Both Ruby & George nodded, Unity burst out laughing hysterically saying "& THAT'S NOT CONFUSING AT ALL." Ruby jumped up rushing around the table embracing her daughter as tears filled both of their eyes "I am so sorry, to have messed up your special day" Ruby said softly George stood up & joined in the hug. Theon meanwhile felt a little uncomfortable but was distracted by the mass of white smoke materialising in front of the aga. "erm guys" Theon said looking nervously between them & the increasing fog. Slowly the smoke cleared

"Char....I mean lady Alcina" Ruby corrected herself running across the room to hug. The lady Alcina embraced Ruby into a light clinch "just Alcina please no need for formality we are family" they turned to face the room, next to her mother stood a young woman Unity didn't recognize she wore a long flowing silvery white dress had shoulder length platinum hair & the most amazingly vibrant green eyes Unity had ever seen they were almost luminescence.

"This is your auntie Alcina" Ruby said addressing Unity, who just smiled weakly "hello child, I couldn't very well miss my niece's 16th birthday could I now" Alcina said warmly walking over, she gave George & Theon a similarly light hug, then took hold of Unity's hand, & suddenly Unity felt peace & harmony course through her like a soak in a warm soothing aromatherapy bath George produced some nettle tea for Alcina & they all sat whilst the lady Alcina filled them in, on all that had happened over the past 16 years, & how she now had a 12 year old daughter of her own.
