Chapter 47 Coming of Age

The lady Alcina again took Unity's hand "the morning will bring new challenges for you, Unity you are now coming of age, & as such your abilities will manifest themselves" she said in her smooth comforting voice "WELL EXACTLY WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, WHAT THE HELL AM I?" Unity screeched, jumping up agitated & clearly exasperated, the lady took hold of her hand again, passing on a tranquil euphoria that appeared to quench the confusing rage within her "calm yourself Unity, as your mother said you are a hybrid, a combination of Werewolf & Vampire" she paused "wait how did you know, mumma had told me?" Unity asked "I know about most things, anyway as I was saying, you are the best of both if you will, half Werewolf" she said pointing at George "& half Vampire" pointing to Ruby "& what's more you're stronger than both, with none of their vulnerability's or more importantly their desires" Alcina finished calmly "how is it that I have not felt any of these desires you speak of? Asked Ruby.

"Well if you can remember I told you 16 years ago, Kate & Anthony's influences within you keeps any such desires or needs suppressed. Unity sat heavily down, shell shocked & dumfounded by the clarity of the revelation, she had hoped against hope that her mothers' confessions of their past & present had been a mere fantasy & untrue. But for an unknown reason, she felt almost compelled to believe in everything the lady Alcina had said, even though she didn't want to. Unity had felt safe & serene in her little bubble, true it was strange how odd inexplainable things had kept on happening, but she felt obliged to keep these portions of her life hidden from her friends & by virtue of not trying to understand the odd phenomena that had occurred she was almost able to ignore them, up until now. Now that bubble had burst with a fierce ferocious bang, she felt like her comfort blanket was now well & truly gone, it was safe to say that she was feeling unsure about what her future held or that of her family. Ruby seeing her daughters' obvious discomfort, moved around the table again to give Unity a reassuring hug. "What's going to happen now mumma?" Unity asked in a shaky unsteady voice as tears began filling up her eyes.

"Well Char......" Ruby stopped & corrected herself "sorry your auntie Alcina will help us & you deal with all these changes, but sure it will mean that, no longer do we need to fear the Vampire" Ruby replied "but.... Your... a Vampire, doesn't that mean, you thirst for blood & also want me dead?" As Unity said this she slunk slowly away from her mother.

"Your mother & father made a pact long before they became what they are now. ("I am so very much in love with you my lady, there is nothing and no one that I would ever let come between us and I will never, leave you nor let any powers of heaven or hell keep me from you, you complete me, with you I am whole.") & over the past 200 or so years that pact has remained solid" Alcina interjected. "Pact what pact?" Unity asked the room suspiciously "we, your mother & I made a pact that nothing & no one would come between us" George answered "& then when we became what we are now, we three" he continued gesturing toward Alcina & Ruby "swore that no human, or Gods worriers the Werewolf would ever suffer or die at our hands" George finished. At this Unity seemed to relax only ever so slightly, then as if reading her thoughts, the lady said "no my child as a half Vampire you will not be taken by the thirst" once again Unity seemed to be put at ease by this information. "as I said you will suffer none of the Vampires weaknesses or desires" the lady Alcina reiterated. The tense situation that had developed between them all seemed to calm down. George Theon & Unity went out into the court yard to practice & prepare for Unity's impending metamorphosis, whilst Ruby & Alcina stayed inside, drinking tea & gossiping.

"how is it going in the Witches dimension?" Asked Ruby "Well Cassandra has been consumed by true evil, & along with the Vampire Mandrake have killed many of my brothers & sisters, what's more they have taken humans there too, for the Vampires to hunt." The lady stated " I have amassed a small force in the third territory, but honestly Ruby, I do not know if they are strong enough to put up much of a fight much less win" she finished sounding a little downcast & brow beaten & then suddenly brightening said "oh, & as I told you I now have a daughter of my own, her parents, fell victim to Cassandra & Mandrake, & when I found her, she was alone, frightened & alone" she paused, her name is Isabella, & do you remember me mentioning my auntie Nighmearee?" she paused "oh, yes I remember didn't you say that she had a sister?" Ruby replied "well I have met her she is auntie Nighmearee's twin, her name is Nighmeara, & whilst we, Isabella & I were taking some rest when we arrived in the third territory having travelled for many days, I was visited by my late mother" she paused again as Ruby's face displayed a wide shocked look & as if reading Ruby's thoughts "apparently it has happened that way for millennia, anyway because I had the mark that took me in service of the Vampire, fortunately you were my first & only mistress. So, I hadn't as yet taken a life or for that matter assisted you to do the same. Apparently my mother invoked nativitatis elegit matrem, that is to say that she was naturally concerned that my soul would be tarnished so she chose a baron Witch to host my child, a decision that would normally be made by the current Alcina, & as luck would have it Isabella is my daughter true, & if it's ok with you perhaps you & George would be her godparents?" she asked tentatively "oh yes my friend of course we would love to, that's wonderful news." said Ruby giving the lady a fierce hug. Theon, George & Unity came back in, & Unity sat next to the lady talking together, whilst Ruby George & Theon huddled together whispering conspiratorially, at one end of the kitchen, Unity looked worryingly at the lady who looked warmly at her "do not be concerned, it is often the way of parents to try their best to protect their children, & that is all they are doing" the lady said soothingly, this once more seemed to put her again at ease. Then they all again sat together & talked some more about the insignificant happenings here in the world of man. then suddenly the lady raised her hand almost like she were in a class trying to gain the attention of the teacher but making it quite clear that she needed to talk & for them all to listen. "The main reason for me coming, was in fairness not only to recognise your birthday Unity" she began addressing her god-daughter but to ask you Ruby & George if I can take Unity away with me, now that she has come of age & can at last fulfil the prophecy" she paused trying to gage the atmosphere in the room. "She will be a huge asset in the fight against my sister & Mandrake" she concluded, looking at them all expecting a rebuke, the lady was surprised that her request had not been flatly denied, or that her audience didn't appear overly shocked. Despite all her skills & powers the lady was unable to interpret their expressions, it appeared that Unity shared the same idea as her parents. But it was George who was first to speak "Unity is my daughter & it would be wrong of me not to ask, why is it you feel that she could tip the scales in your favour" he said with a calmness that surprised even him "I really thought I would be angrier than I am, perhaps my confidence in my daughter is quite supreme" he thought.
