Hotch helps you settle in the plane seat before his and like he'd known from your gaze on him, he places a hand up over the table in-between, and you reach for it right away. Since that ride to the hospital you've done nothing but hold his hand. He's been nothing but kind and loving, offering his silent comfort with unwavering steadiness.
"What's the plan then?" Dave asks, sitting by Hotch's side, "Are you coming back to the BAU or what?"
You hold Hotch's gaze. "Would anything change?"
"Technically," Dave continues, "you'd need to do the annoying bits first – report to HR, have an interview, and then you'll be reinstated to someone who you'll report to for everything at work. Aaron won't be your direct supervisor."
You turn to Dave, "Will it be you?"
He feigns a disgusted face "I don't want to take up extra work. I'm already on thin ice for directing my paperwork to the desk jockeys –"
"Wait – you do what?" Hotch interjects, making you stifle a laugh, but Dave continues unbothered.
"Emily will be your supervisor"
You glance to where she's sitting and she winks back.
"Oh, cool"
Hotch flashes you a bashful smile, "She's already been given directions and well... the papers are ready for when you want to make the transferal official. It can start even tomorrow."
"Couldn't wait to take me back?" you tease and Dave laughs fondly at the two of you.
"Actually" Penelope pops her head in, Derek in tow, "I am the one guilty with compiling the paperwork to get you admitted ASAP."
"She did that as soon as you told her about Martins, in fact" Derek confesses and Pen slaps a hand over his torso.
"Hey! I told you that in confidence!"
You squeeze Hotch's hand tighter, feeling ready to cry again from the overwhelming support from everyone.
"A break wouldn't be bad" Spencer says from his post on the big couch of the plane. He smiles, "I think we all need one, actually"
"Welcome back party at her place?" JJ offers and everyone exclaims their approval.
"Why mine?" you counteract, a laugh bubbling out of your throat and you stare at the man sitting beside Hotch, a plan already in mind.
"No—" Dave starts, knowing already what alternative you'll bring up. "Not this time. Not after emptying my pantry --"
"Seems it's only fair we have it in a larger space – more accommodating too" Hotch says with a playful smile.
"A place that comes with catering" you chime in.
"Of course, it's a temperate suggestion"
Dave rolls his eyes. "Thought being together would make you both better people."
You give him a pout and a pleading look.
"God" he sighs exasperated, "fine. But anyone later than 7 and I'm locking the doors."
