ON THE bus, on the way back to Shadyside, Kate was amped up and holding ice to her face. "Pieces of shit!" She shouts. "Yeah!" All of them agreed with her. "They think they can do wgat they want!" She walks down the bus aisle. "No!" They shout and Marcus smiled.
"They ruin our vigil, then go waltzing back to their mansions, like we're some reject pile that they can step on!" She says and they all stomp at the same time. "No!" Everyone shouts afterwards. "Well, we are not the reject pile!" She says, looking around the bus.
"No!"
"This shit ends tonight!"
"Yeah!"
Simon stood up, looking at Kate, "what are we gonna do?!" She says and Kate smiles widely at him. "We're gonna go kill those preppy assholes!" She says and Simon leans back, looking at Marcus in the seat in front of him as Kate sat down and everyone cheered.
"Kate! Kate! Kate! Kate! Kate!"
"When I say Shady, you say side!"
Marcus smiled widely at Simon standing up on the seat. "Shady!" He shouts. "Side!" All of them shout back. "When I say Shady, you say side!" He jumps down, walking down the bus. "Shady!" "Side!" "When I say Shady, you say side!" Marcus was never one to "represent" or show any team or school spirit, like ever.
But when it came to this, defending their home and defending his friends, he was all in. Which is why he was stomping his feet, clapping his hands and shouting side alongsides with them. "Guys! Come here! Come here!" Deena caught their attention so Marcus quickly looked back and got up. He walks with Kate and Simon to the back where she was standing.
The chanting continued as they looked out the window and saw the red car speeding towards them. "You gotta be kidding me." Kate says. "Hey, isn't that, uh..." Simon trailed off. "Sam." Deena said quietly making Marcus look down at her. "Your ex?" He says quietly.
She got up quickly and went over to the jug filled with drinks for the team as Simon turned around, pulling down his pants. Marcus grimaced, "seriously, Si?" He says and Simon smiled widely. "Sunnyvale sucks!" He says then he pulled back, pulling up his pants quickly as Deena opens up the big container. "Open the door!" She says and Marcus looks at Kate.
"Open the door!" Deena repeats and then Kate did so, Marcus just stood there watching as Kate and Deena grab the sides of the container. "This is definitely a good idea, right? Deena?" Kate says but all Deena did was look out at the car, "on three, okay?" She says and Marcus backed away. "Are you sure?" Kate asked.
"One, two..."
"Deena!" The curly haired girl looks to her friend. "What?" She says and Kate gasped. "Your nose!" She says and Marcus saw Kate let go and back away so he tried to leap forward and grab the container since Deena obviously can't hold it on her own without support.
But then it was too late, it slipped out of Deena's hand and hit the car behind them, causing the boy driving to swerve and drive off the road as Marcus' eyes widen. "Stop! Stop the bus!" Deena suddenly shouted to the driver.
Marcus didn't hesitate to follow after Deena and ran with her, because he was worried about what happened. "Sam, are you okay?" Deena kneeled beside Sam who looks at her. "Oh! I'm so... I'm sorry." Deena grabs her face.
"Stay away from her, you bull dyke freak!" The guy in the driver's seat says making Marcus look at her. "Shut the fuck up, you ass--" "Sam, it's me. I'm here." Deena cut off Marcus, looking at Sam and pushing her hair out of her face. "Did you... see?" Sam says quietly and Marcus kneeled on the other side of Sam.
"See what?" He asked and Deena looks around. "Oh, shit!" Simon and Kate had shown up, Simon kneeled down beside Deena. "Okay, we should not be down here." Kate says, just standing there. "Shut up and help me carry her!" Deena says. "Yeah, we need to leave, like ten minutes ago." Kate replied to the other.
"We have to clear her airway." Simon says, leaning closer to Sam. "Quit it!" Deena smacks his hands away with a glare. "Hey! I got this. Chill out." Simon says, his hand to Deena's upperarm before he looks at Sam.
"I got this." He nods as Marcus just stared at him. "How many fingers am I holding up?" He raised his hand which Sam looks at. "Three." She says and he smiles, looking at Deena. "See? She's fine." He says but then Sam barfs blood all over him. "Oh, my God!" Kate exclaims. "Oh, ugh! What the fuck?" Simon says as he stood up and they all back away from Sam. Marcus quickly went over to Kate and Simon.
"That... was gross."
After that, they take Sam onto a gurney into an ambulance and Marcus was standing with Simon and Kate. "The plan's to say we don't know what happened, right?" Marcus whispers to them as he watched Sheriff Goode question Deena. "Yeah, obviously." Kate whispers back.
"No, duh," Simon says and Marcus sighs. "I really hope he doesn't talk to me... I hate Sheriff Goode, he has a really punchable face... Like I wanna punch him, if he wasn't the sheriff, I would've punched him by now." He says.
"Mar, we get it. You hate his face."
Sheriff Goode held up his notebook. "What the hell do you want?" Marcus says, irritated and Sheriff Goode glanced up. "I want you to tell me what happened." He says and Marcus shrugs. "What happened here?" He said as he pointed to the ground and Sheriff Goode glanced up at him again before nodding.
"I don't know... must've been a freak accident, you know, those happen a lot... So." He shrugs and Sheriff Goode just slowly nods, looking down. No one told him anything, they all just denied it, said it was an accident. Simon said "suck it, pig," to him and Marcus thought that was pretty badass of him.
