First Day of Uni

Naina’s POV:
I woke up with a weird feeling. Today was the first day of Uni and I was really scared. It’s a whole new place with new people and finding friends is harder than ever. I did my usual morning routine. I wore blue jeans and a white t-shirt and a black and white striped sweater as it was a bit chilly outside. I grabbed by breakfast smoothie along with everything else I needed and headed down to my first lecture, management. Once I reached the lecture room, I took my seat in the middle row of the several available. I don’t know why, but to me it’s very crucial where I sit in class. I chose the middle row because I felt it was not too close to the front and not too far up the back. Just enough so that I can listen when I need to and zone out when I need to.

I took out my laptop and waited for it to turn on.
“Mind if I sit here?” I looked up to see an Indian girl standing next to me, smiling sweetly.
“ Yeah sure. Go ahead” I said, slightly awkwardly but with a smile.
“ I’m Jiya. Jiya Saxena” She held out her hand and smiled at me.  She had shoulder length black hair with red highlights that framed her face. She wore a locket on one hand and a silver watch on the other. She wore black jeans with opened red flannel shirt and a black singlet on the inside. S
Hi, I’m Naina Talwar.” I smiled, shaking her hand.
We started talking and after that, we never seemed to stop, that is until the professor came in. Jiya was such a nice person. Quite the opposite to me but we seemed to talk a lot. She was very outgoing while I usually kept my head down.  While our lecture went on, Jiya always seemed to be cracking funny jokes and commenting on the professor. With people like her, I would usually  tell her to stop doing that as I wanted to concentrate but I could not help but laugh. Her jokes cracked me up and after that I could not stop thinking about it.  After an hour of a somewhat interesting class on management, I started packing up my stuff.
“Hey Naina!” Jiya called as I started to make my way down the steps.
“Yeah?” I turned back to look at her.
“ I was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime? Like get a coffee? In a friend way of course haha.” She laughed.
“Sure! That would be awesome! Here is my number. Maybe we can fix up a time later on. I’m free for lunch?” I suggested, giving her my number.
“Sounds great!” She replied, giving her number to me and then slipping her phone into her bag.
“Great! I’ll text you.” I waved as I walked out of the lecture room.

I never realised how much of a difference having a friend can have. I felt as though there was this undiscovered confidence in me that I had yet to discover. I know...a lot of confidence and emotions from just one meeting but I guess it happens sometimes. Sure Abhi and I are friends, but we are separate people with separate lives. I guess now that Uni is going to start getting busy, we won’t have much time to hang out with each other so I better start making new friends.

I walked back to my dorm and dumped my stuff on my bed. I had a couple of hours to kill before lunch. You would think that I would have another lecture on straight after my management one, but I have nothing until the afternoon. I fished out my laptop and opened it up. My lecturer had asked us to do a essay on the importance of management when running a business. Honestly, it’s very simple but very tedious. I opened up a word document and started typing. The next time I looked up from my laptop, an hour went passed. I had finished writing my essay and all I had to do was proof read.  I leaned against the head of my bed and grabbed my phone from the bedside table and started scrolling through my instagram feed. I doubled tapped a couple of pictures then closed my phone. What am I supposed to do now? I have two hours to kill. Should I call Jiya and see if we can meet up earlier or should I just leave it? Naa..I think I will leave it. I don’t want to seem to desperate. Maybe I should call Abhi? Yeah, I think I’ll do that.  I took my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I found his.

“Hello?” Abhi answered
“Hey, it’s Naina. You busy?” I asked
“Hey Nains! Na, not at all. What up?”
“I’m bored. Can I come over? I’ve got 2 hours with nothing to do?” I asked, hoping that his answer would be yes.
“Yeah sure. My roommate is in at the moment but you can still come and chill.”
“ Thanks Abhi! I’ll be there in ten.” I closed the call and grabbed my things.

I completely forgot that Abhi had a roommate. I wonder what he’s like? I hope he is a nice person not some stuck up guy. I  re-tied my messy ponytail, grabbed my handbag and made my way to Abhi’s dorm.
