Matched
Last part (A)
The elder Qureshi's were as usual on their date. It wasn't unusual for Ayaan to know that his parents were very much in love with each other and he had seen it in fair share himself.
While the younger Qureshi was trying to come clean with his own feelings, his parents were speculating about what must have been happening.
His mother had been an excellent planner and her planning didn't just stop at letting Ayaan his feelings but it was rather much more. She knew enough and was already planning an elaborate wedding for her only son.
"Shaista do you think he will be able to say anything?" Zaakir asked his wife as he pulled the chair for her.
His love for his wife hasn't faded in years, in fact it just got multiplied. The only thing he wanted his son to learn from him was to have a blissful life with his beloved like he had and is still having.
But Not all things can be achieved, like his son's dim-witted nature which was a new addition to the Qureshi's.
Zaakir Qureshi poured his wife her favourite sparkling punch as he sat beside her holding his own glass.
They will be away for some days that they haven't informed their son. Shaista looked at her husband's slightly worried face. She knew that no matter how much he would try to play with their son, he was genuinely concerned too.
"He doesn't have to zaakir. Do you think he will be able to do it? He didn't find a single opportunity to confess to her even after working with her for almost now a year. And yes I know that Haya has been his secretary for a year now." She said with an annoyance. Their Ayaan had been her perfect son, he was pampered that in turn made him a little snobbish but she loved her little boy.
Yes, little he will always remain her Ayaan who would create mischief and then would try to find ways to placate his mother.
"I know what you are thinking shaista. It's not about his love life or the future of the Qureshi's. It's about him.." Zaakir's wife nodded in affirmation knowing well that her son was just like this.
No matter how they portray themselves to the outside world, they want their son to be happy.
"I know love, you know that we can't do anything if he doesn't get married by next year. It's always been like this. You married fairly young too. It's about the inheritance. Those papers which are nothing but a leash if he didn't do it by the time he reached twenty six..." Shaista was even worried when they didn't see anything happening and Ayaan was already twenty five.
She said the real reason. Something which Ayaan wasn't aware of. A legal implication for every Hier of Qureshi's to get married by twenty six and have a heir himself by twenty eight.
Zaakir and Shaista were lucky to have found each other in their arranged match but they have seen many lives ruining these types of betrothal.
The day Shaista Qureshi has held her baby Ayaan in her hands she had pledged to never subject her son to the torment that she had zaakir had saved themselves.
"But your sight caught what I couldn't Shaista.." the words made Shaista smile.
"Well you weren't the one who would listen to his cribbing late at night when he would work and pick at his secretary. He was giving his hundred percent to the business but he was attracted at the same time to his secretary, whom I didn't know at first." She teased her husband a bit.
Zaakir refilled the glasses as he thought of the time when his dimwit son had nothing to do.
"And you confirmed it by setting him up with numerous dates.."
The planning was so elaborate that Ayaan didn't even catch a whiff until that ball night which was just arranged for him.
"Husband, our son confirmed his feelings when he refused to go on a second date with the elder daughter of the Ahmed's. I think that the younger one had scared him enough.." Shaista laughed and her husband was no less.
"Wife, if ayaan knows what you have done, we can't even justify ourselves." He chuckled thinking of what havoc their son could create if he gets to know the real truth.
"He cannot blame us Zaakir, it's the family that he will have to think first. He needs to take over everything and it is only possible when he gets married. Your father made it clear that Ayaan will not be a legal heir.. " Shaista's words made her husband hiss a bit.
"That old man had a strange way of operating.." Zaakir seconded his wife.
"But he did match ours so you can't blame him. Especially not when I have already informed Ammi.. she will be coming soon for her grandson's wedding. I just hope that Ayaan will come clean with his feelings now. It's been enough now, almost six months now and I think it is longer than that..." His wife's words made him look at her in suspicion.. and asked her..
"What do you mean Shaista? I don't understand.. Ayaan had appointed Haya as his secretary in August last year and if I am right it's close to ten months now.." he asked getting confused.
"No, you are wrong that the poor girl was rejected by our son. She holds a degree in civil engineering and our son found no other place than a secretary in our huge business empire. Haya was extremely unhappy when I met her for the first time. At that time she didn't know who I was and she had told me all about her interview rejection as a designer but she was selected for the post of a secretary after two months. I don't know why but I have always been suspicious of Ayaan and his weird behaviour."
Shaista was now opening the pit of the secrets.. she was fairly upset with her son but she still proceeded with her plan.
"I would really like to ask my son why he had to give such a menial job to such a bright young lady. She is qualified enough to be his assistant at least." Shaista asked her husband but Zaakir Qureshi just answered her in the monotone that defined his son's idiocy.
"Shaista, Ayaan definitely lacks a brain. That's for sure. But I think if it was not an assistant, he definitely had some attraction for her. As his secretary he spends far more time with her than he could have done with his junior assistant. So, I think it was done deliberately on his part." He answered.
"Nevertheless, I still hope that he can get married now or I am going to tell Ahmed's for the alliance. I can't handle them anymore." Zaakir said annoyingly.
"Nowadays having an eligible bachelor as a son is difficult Shaista". Zaakir commented remembering how he was made aware of the fact.
"I am sure that Ayaan cannot tolerate Dear Alisha for more than a few days.. if you even pressurized him but give him some credit for not even knowing that his secretary is the daughter of renowned neurologist Dr. Fariya Ahmed and cardiologist Dr. Ahmed Mansoor Ali."
The sarcasm was dripping in Shaista's words and she had to know that Ayaan couldn't be trusted alone that was the reason she had already hinted Haya about his feelings.
