"Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover? I've heard they went missing".

That's the first thing we hear from a random guy on the street. Levi simply asked me to start talking to people in the middle of the square. So that's why he needed a people's person, although I don't really consider myself that much of an extrovert. But being with someone is easier than the time alone I had at Rose.

"Missing?" I repeat.

"Yes, the police don't know if they left the city or were kidnapped".

"If it was a kidnap, they would be asking for a rescue" Levi says. "Did you know them?"

"Yes. We were acquaintances".

I take a piece of paper and a pencil. "Could you describe Reiner to me? And then Bertholdt. With all the details you can think of, please".

I make a quick sketch hearing what the man has to better describe both Reiner and Bertholdt. When I'm done, I show them the drawings. "Would this be close to what they look like?"

He looks impressed. "Yes, that's close to them!"

"I didn't know you could draw" Levi says.

"It's just a sketch, but I know someone who can make it look more realistic".

"Alright then. Thank you for your collaboration" Levi thanks the man and we make our way through the town.

"I'm guessing these men got the factory's money and ran away" I say to Levi. "Do you think they paid those men to use their names as fake ones?"

"It looks like it. We should go to the police station and see what else they have gathered from it".

I let Levi do the talk at the police station since he's the only legal detective. I just stay behind, taking notes on everything. Apparently, Reiner and Bertholdt never had a steady job and were kind of troublemakers. They probably scammed the factory, but how?

They didn't live in Maria. Never really worked at the factory. We needed to see what Hange would find out, but if the signatures were false, then someone inside the factory was working with them, since they wouldn't have access to the papers.

We have some lunch on the street and head back to Maria. On our way back, the train is crowded. Levi sits by my side, clearly bothered by having to share our space with another couple.

I think about the way he held me and looked at me today after I tried rescuing that lady's purse. I finally have the courage to ask:

"You mentioned a girl named Isabel earlier today". I don't want to sound nosy, nor do I want him thinking I'm jealous, but I need to know. "Who is she?"

"Isabel is my little sister. I have a brother too, but neither is from my blood".

"Oh, I see".

I feel relieved. And also happy to find out Levi had a family. He looked lonely to me, but I'm glad to know he's got people who care about him. I just feel that I don't want to see him all alone. It'd make me terribly sad.

"Why'd you ask?"

"Just out of curiosity. Sorry if it was too personal".

I feel sleepy on the ride back to Maria. I let myself sleep a bit, knowing Levi wouldn't mind.

She sleeps on my shoulder almost half the way back. I don't like people touching me, it makes me cringe. But her hair smells nice. I know she won't get dirt on me. Well, maybe her dress will, but I don't mind it for now.
