Chapter Twenty Two - The closer I get to you

I wait until the train departs, until Levi and I have the cabin to ourselves, to ask what I've been wondering all this time.

"Levi".

"Yes?"

"Am I really going to stay at your sister's room?"

I say it quietly, although our door is closed and we're sitting side by side, holding hands. I feel a bit silly asking that. Levi glances at me, his eyes darkening with the thought.

"Do you have something else in mind?" His hand comes to caress my cheek. Eyes on my lips and face coming closer. I know what he's thinking, but I won't give in so easily.

"I really wanted to sleep tight with you" I confess. "We could read together and fall asleep in each other's arms".

"Of course. I've been longing for this, actually".

"Really?"

"Since you first came into my hotel room in the middle of the night like the crazy woman you are".

"Well, you look pretty in love with this crazy woman you like to judge so much".

He scoffs, unimpressed. He grabs my hand and kisses it, sweetly. I love how gentle he is with me. No one could ever tell how touchy he actually is. I think he craves this type of attention, but doesn't let it show.

I whisper close to him:

"Levi. Can we make love again?"

His eyes grow wide. He whispers back in my ear: "The whole weekend if you want me".

I press my arms together, getting flustered. Levi gives me a kiss on my cheek. I'm getting more anxious by the second. We still have more than 1 hour to get there.

Levi cleans his throat and sits up straight. I see he's about to get serious.

"Since we're getting married, there are some things we need to discuss".

"Such as-?" I ask.

"Finances. I've always lived with Isabel and Farlan, so I have money saved. Enough for us to buy a house of our own. That said, you also should know that I can give us a good life. You could stay at home if you want to, but as we said before, you're free to do whatever you'd like. I mean, I'm sure we could find you a place in any school here".

"Well, I was thinking about something else..."

"Why do you sound so tricky?"

I smile. "I thought that I could help with your cases. Hange said you always have people waiting for an appointment".

He looks surprised. And worried.

"I don't know...You never know what could happen on a job like this".

"You said it yourself that it's pretty boring most of the time! Come on, I won't be in danger. I can stay at the office if you prefer. I love helping you with my city's case".

"You are quite good at it".

"Yes, I am".

He looks at me with a grin. "Fine, that can be arranged"

I give him a peck on the cheek, satisfied.

"There's something else I need to know" He continues.

"Spill it, detective".

"What are your thoughts on having children?"

I feel embarrassed all of a sudden. Obviously we should talk about our plans for the future. I have my own desires, but I'm afraid he's not on the same page.
