Sammie Evans had a bad feeling about that Theodore kid. Seriously, who shows up late on the first day? Sammie would never associate herself with a child who had such subpar standards. Nope. Nada. Never.

She walked to science class with Liam, who looked generic as ever. As they sat down near the front of the class, Sammie looked over towards the doorway. Theodore and his friends were standing there. And they were the last ones to enter the class (which really shouldn't have surprised Sammie).

Please don't come sit here, please don't come sit here, she thought to herself. Unfortunately, Liam decided to not blend into the background the one time Sammie really wanted him to. "Hey guys, come join us!"

No no no no NO! Sammie thought.

Theodore and his friends sat down. Omg Sammie would never survive this year! The guy with the green fedora adorned with pearls bowed his head and said, "Nice to meet you, my name is Ryan".

Huh, that wasn't too terrible, Sammie thought. Imagine if his name was Logan or something.

"This is Quinton," Liam introduced his friend. Quinton wore a rather peculiar shirt. It had a purple whale mosaic on it.

Anyways, Sammie refocused her attention on Theodore. "What middle school did you go to Theodore?" she asked.

"Don't call me Theodore," Theodore scowled.

"Yeah he likes to be called Theo," explains Liam in a monotone voice.

Sammie ignores Theodore and repeats her question. "What middle school did you go to Theodore?"

"This is so stupid," he mutters.

Suddenly, the teacher stands up and claps his hands. "Good morning class! My name is Mr. Donovan and today we'll be learning about blood types! Once I tell you your lab partners, please grab some lab equipment from the back counter. I have pre-selected the pairs and you will have to work together for the rest of the year. And please be careful! I don't want to be responsible for any more deaths," he laughs nervously.

Sammie notices Liam and Ryan giving each other unsure looks. Mr. Donovan whips out a handy notebook and flips to page 394. "Here are the pairs," he starts calling out: "Tanner and Veronika, Lilliana and Addy, Quinton and Rue, Liam and Ryan, Sammie and Theodore--"

Sammie's mind went blank with rage. She couldn't believe she would have to put up with this jerk for the rest of the year! She turned reluctantly to her new partner.

"I guess I can get the equipment," offered Sammie.

"I can help," said Theodore.

"Theo, maybe you should stay back and let her do her thing," said Quinton, nervously eyeing the two as they glared daggers into each other's eyes.

Theodore ignored them and followed Sammie to the counter. She braced herself for any tricks he might pull to try and annoy her. He stood in front of the cabinet as Sharpie reached for the beaker.

"What are you doing?" Sammie furrowed her eyebrows when the beaker was just out of her reach, blocked by a certain someone.

"I'm just standing here," Theodore shrugged.

"You're so childish," huffed Sammie, "move over!" She reached for the beaker at the same time as her partner, but as she pulled it off the shelf, it knocked against Theodore's elbow. The beaker fell off the shelf... and landed directly on someone's head.

"What the hell?!" Tanner cried angrily. The short midget boy rubbed the spot on his head where the beaker shattered.

"Oh non! Sacrebleu!" Veronika exclaimed as she briskly walked over to where her partner sat pouting on the floor. "Est-ce que vous êtes correct, Tanner?" [Are you alright, Tanner?].

The teacher, hearing the commotion, ran over to them. "Tanner, you should head to the office. Veronika, will you go with him please?"

"Oui, oui, bien sûr, monsieur" [Yes, yes, of course, sir] she replied.

She reached out and offered a hand to Tanner, who was still on the floor. He swatted it away and stood up on his own.

"I'll be telling my daddy about this!" he shouted as he walked out the door, a tired looking Veronika at his heels.

Mr. Donovan turned to Sammie and Theodore, standing beside the shattered glass. "As for you two, I should give you detention for being so reckless with such expensive lab equipment. The school pays good money for that stuff!"

They both held their breath. Detention was not something either of them wanted.

"But I won't. You just need to get the big broom from the janitor's closet down the hall."

Theodore and Sammie walk in silence down the hallway until they reach the janitor's closet. They open the door and both go inside. "Ok let's just get the broom and get out of here," said Theodore.

"Agreed," said Sammie, as they continued to search for the broom.

"Look at that, I found it!" exclaimed Theodore mockingly. He grabbed the broom and headed back towards Sammie.

"Great," said Sammie, sounding bored, and she went to open the door. The handle didn't budge. "Um, I think we have a problem."

"Let me try, stupid" said Theodore. He tried the door and the handle didn't work for him either. "This is all your fault you @!!***#^#&%*&!@#*%&~*@$*&," Theo rants angrily. He has never been this irritated in his entire life! He kicks the door in frustration and starts to cuss again.

"Help! Get us out of here!"

Sammie rolls her eyes. "Everyone is in class, they won't hear you."

The two are forced to sit awkwardly in silence for the next hour until finally Ryan opens the door. "Oh hey you guys!" he says. "What are you doing in here?" he chuckled.

"Finally," Theodore said as he quickly got up and ran out the door.

"The door locked when we were looking for the broom-" said Sammie "Oh, hi Liam?"

"Hey" he said blandly, coming out from behind the door. Sammie gets up and leaves the closet to go get ready for her next class.
