Sammie watched Theodore glance down at his phone one more time. "They said they'd be here by now. I don't get it."

Liam and Ryan had organized a hangout with them for that day, but were nowhere to be seen. "Maybe call them?" Sharpie suggested.

"I called Liam three times, I'll try Ryan now." he said and clicked the 'call' button on his phone.

~*-*~ Somewhere in the Distance ~*-*~

In a tree with a great view of the schoolyard where Sammie and Theodore stood, Ryan's phone started ringing. Ring! Ring! Ring!

"Dude! I told you to silence your phone!" Quinton complained from on the ground below the tree where they were practicing their dance moves to How You Like That.

"We are so far away. They won't hear us, calm down." Ryan, who was wearing a camo fedora today, shifted his arm from where it was behind Liam (who was also in the tree, wearing his generic black Converse, as usual) to grab his phone from his back pocket and turn it off.

"Thank you," said Quinton, who continued to dance. Just then, Cory rode by on his sk8board.

"Hey was that Cory?" Quinton stopped dancing and ran out onto the sidewalk. "Cory!" They called after him.

A few moments later, Quinton returned under the tree with Cory. "I can't believe you guys are actually doing this-" Cory stopped and slowly looked up to where Liam and Ryan were sitting. "Do I even want to know?"

"Probably not," Ryan grinned down at the friend who had just joined them.

Liam raised the pair of binoculars they had taken with them to his face and looked down at their unsuspecting friends.

Ryan laughed. "I can't believe this is happening"

"You've caught them in the janitor's closet twice now. Something is going on here. This is how we're going to find out." said Quinton

"Let's just hope our plan works." sighed Liam in a generic tone.

Sammie and Theodore were all alone and frustrated with their friend's lack of communication.

"I mean we could still hang out?" suggested Sammie.

"Of course!" replied Theodore with a smile. The two of them found a bench in the shade to sit on and spent the afternoon talking and talking. Hours had passed when Theodore's phone buzzed with a text. He picked it up and Sammie looked over his shoulder.

"Is it Ryan? Liam? Have they come up with some sort of excuse for why they just never showed up?" she asked.

"No," Theodore sighed "It's just my mom. She says she's coming to pick me up in 20 minutes."

"Ah ok."

~*-*~ Theodore's POV ~*-*~

Theodore Solano came to a very sudden realization when he got that text from his mother. If he was going to do this, he had to do it now. Do what? You may be wondering. That's a good question. You see, Theo was currently internally panicking as he worked up the courage to confess his undying love for the girl sitting beside him on the bench.

Crazy right? A mere year ago Theo couldn't even stand the thought of looking at the strange Sharpie girl in his class. He wanted nothing more than to annoy her until she snapped. But he'd realized overtime that she wasn't so bad.

The irritation at her know-it-all-ness turned into admiration for her intelligence. The anger at her confidence turned into a fond regard. He didn't have the strength to ignore his feelings for her anymore. He cleared his throat and turned towards her.

"Listen, Sharpie, I have something to tell you."

"Yes?"

"Well, you see-"

"Oh Theodore, I already know"

"What?"

"You never gave me back those two dollars. Don't worry, I don't mind."

"No that's not what I wanted to tell you"

"Oh then what?"

He hesitated a second. "You see... I like you"

"Oh," she replied, expression unreadable

"Uh yeah" he shifted uncomfortably.

A small smile formed on her face, "Well I'm glad, because this would have been awkward if you didn't."

"Wait what do you mean"

"I like you too"

"..."

"You gonna say something Theo?"

"Omgdoyouwannagooutonadatewithme???"

"Theo I would love to! When should we-"

~*-*~ Sammie's POV ~*-*~

Suddenly, Theodore's mom's car rolled around the corner. Sammie froze as she stared at the licence plate attached to the green Kia Soul.

Her insides burned in rage as she realized that this was the licence plate of the very same car that had run Clifford Atticus Dominic Richardson III over. What a shocking twist!

"Sharpie what's wrong?" Theodore asks, noticing her blank expression.

"Your mom killed my cat," she said.

"What do you mean??" Theo was so confused.

"You mom ran over my cat, Clifford Atticus Dominic Richardson III on July 16th, 2010, 3:56 pm, license plate number *** ***, at River Creek Park. She had been parked in the 6th parking spot from the jungle gym and her careless mistake while pulling out cost me my best friend's life."

Theodore's mouth dropped open in shock.

"Listen," said Sammie, "if this happened a year ago, I would've wanted to stab you repeatedly in the heart with a chopstick. However, I've gotten to know you, Theodore Solano. And you're not as terrible of a person as I initially suspected. And I really like you. However, Clifford Atticus Dominic Richardson III is my soulmate, and nothing will ever change that. He was ripped away from me much too soon. I have vowed ever since then that one day I will find whoever did this to him, and now I finally have. I'm sorry, but until you make it up to me I can't go out with you and betray my poor Cliff like that." She walked away with her skirt billowing and her hair flying in the wind leaving Theodore all alone on the bench as it started pouring rain.

Theodore Solano was screwed.
