Sophie's eyes fluttered softly. She slowly woke up from her deep sleep, feeling the fatigue seep out of her. She yawned, wanting to stretch her arms over her head- wait, why were her arms not moving? On a second thought, why was she strapped to a chair?!
"Good morning, blondie," A voice drawled from someone in the dark room. Sophie's eyes sweeped everywhere, but the person who's voice came from could not be seen. Then, out of a corner came a cloaked figure. The black cloak covered every millimeter of skin, and Sophie couldn't see who it was. At the sight of the eye on the figure's sleeve, she shrunk as much as she could into the back of the chair; she wanted nothing to do with this person.
"Who are you?" She asked, hating how shaky her voice sounded. The person simply chuckled.
"Wouldn't you like to know. No more questions."
The figure walked up to her, and and pulled of their hood. It was the Neverseen leader.
"This is what's going to happen. I am going to tell you about a plan we have, and you are going to agree to it. Understand?"
"Why the hell would I agree to something when I don't even know a thing about you?" Sophie snarled. The leader grinned weirdly.
"Sassy, are we? But I suppose that you have a point... Introductions first? I'm Gethen, and I will cause you the most pain you have ever experienced if you don't listen to me. And you're Sophie, who plays an important role in our plan."
"I want nothing to do with it!" Sophie growled, confidence growing. The leader's eyes narrowed.
"I thought that you might say that... Well, it's a good thing that I brought backup."
Sophie's heart dropped into her stomach. What did he mean? The leader walked out of the room, and returned seconds later with two more cloaked figures. They walked towards her menacingly; Sophie could swear that they were smirking under their hoods.
"Sophie here gets a little uncomfortable when dealing with strangers, so why don't you two introduce yourselves?" Gethen said amusedly. The figure on his left threw off their hood, revealing a man with a deeply scarred face with a crooked smile. He looked absolutely insane.
"Why hello there, Sophie. I'm Brant." Brant laughed maniacally. Why were they talking to her like she was in preschool?! Sophie felt both terrified and frustrated.
Gethen nudged the cloaked figure on his right, who sighed and removed their hood themselves. A blonde woman stood there, with sharp ice blue eyes. She looked somewhat familiar to Sophie...
"Gethen, this is absurd. We are wasting time." The woman spoke in a no-nonsense tone. Gethen glared at her; the blonde rolled her eyes and turned her focus towards Sophie.
"Fine. I'm Lady Gisela. Happy?"
Gethen nodded.
But Sophie wasn't. This woman was Keefe's mother... Sophie didn't know that she could hate somebody more than Gethen himself.
"Back to business!" Gethen exclaimed, clapping his hands like a toddler. Sophie had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. "Sophie, before we tell you the plan, we are going to ask you a few questions, which you will answer. Also, did I forget to mention that Brant's a pyrokinetic?"
For effect, Brant lit a flame in his hands. Sophie's eyes widened, and she struggled as he slowly brought his flaming hand towards her.
"Don't touch me!" She shrieked, wishing that she could kick him. Brant laughed, and drew his hand away from her. Gnome, she hated these people.
"So, now that you know the consequences of not listening to us, may we continue?"
Sophie simply glared at him with all her hatred.
"We hear that you are quite incredible, Sophie," Gisela said. "Five abilities, is that right? My, it's hard to keep track of them. Telepath, Enchancer, Polyglot, Inflictor, and Teleporter. Do you mind telling us how you received all these abilities?"
Sophie sighed. "I don't know."
Gisela raised an eyebrow. "Do you remember the consequence for lying?"
"Of course I do! But I don't know the answer!"
Brant scoffed. "You know the answer, you little-"
"Brant! Stay focused!" Warned Gethen.
"Gethen, you are a Telepath, you search her mind! We don't have time for this!" Gisela said hotly, crossing her arms.
"We went through this, Gisela!" Gethen snapped. "Her mind is impenetrable! If she was normal, I would have already found our answers!"
My mind isn't impenetrable to everyone, Sophie thought, blocking out the sounds of her captors bickering. Not to Fitz...
Wait.
She could transmit to Fitz.
Quickly, without it being too obvious, she gathered her energy.
~Fitz? ~ She asked, but with no avail. ~Fitz? ~
~Sophie? ~ That beautiful, beautiful accented voice replied. Sophie's heart skipped a beat.
~Fitz! Are you alright? Are you hurt? ~
~I'm fine, just a few scrapes and bruises. But for some reason, the Neverseen had suddenly retreated... They weren't winning, but they weren't losing either... Are you alright? Do everyone make it through the exit tunnel? ~
Sophie sighed. Boy, this would be hard to say.
~Um, actually, I don't know. I had made sure that I closed the exit door behind them, so they must be there... ~
~Why don't you know? What happened? ~
~I... The Neverseen captured me. That must be why they retreated so suddenly. ~
~ WHAT?! No, Sophie, please no... ~
~I'm so sorry, Fitz. I really am. But at least you are safe. ~
~Stop being so noble! I am going to find you I promise. I will let my father know, and he will help me gather an army. ~
Sophie nearly cried. ~Thank you Fitz. I... I love you- ~
"What are you doing?!" Gisela shrieked, grabbing Sophie's arm painfully.
~Sorry, Fitz, I need to go! ~
"Interesting..." Gethen said, eyeing Sophie. "She seems to be transmitting. I haven't seen this in years."
"What does that mean?" Brant asked; Gisela seemed to be on the same page as him.
"It means that Sophie here was communicating with someone telepathically. Someone who may be the only one who can get into her supposedly impenetrable mind," Gethen responded.
Brant grinned. "Who were you talking to, Sophie? Was it Prince Fitzy?"
Sophie shook her head.
"It was! Wasn't it?" Brant lit a flame in his hand, approaching her slowly.
"It wasn't! I swear, it wasn't! Get away from me!" She pleaded, but Brant didn't back away.
And then all she felt was pain.
