One year later
*BEEPBEEPBEEP*
I opened my eyes to see 6:30 flash on my alarm clock. “Urghh” I moaned as I hit the off button.
‘Another day of work, great.’ I thought as I threw the covers off my body. As the cold air hit my body a shiver was sent down my body. When I went to get up I was I felt a big arm snake around my body and pull me back down.
“And where do you think you are going?” Luke asked in his sexy morning voice. God, I loved it. He was smiling down at me and I could feel my face turn red.
Luke and I had been dating for over a year and even though it has been rough, he seems to make it better.
“I have to get ready for work.” I said trying to get out of his grip, but the more I moved the tighter he hugged me. Eventually I gave up and laid there like lead.
“Why can’t you skip work today? You have not had a day off in three weeks. Stay home and relax.” He explained while he kissed my neck. Even though the offer was very tempting I couldn’t take it. I had to go, I needed the money. Besides I loved my job. I worked at the gym Dean had trained at. A few weeks after he passed I started looking for jobs and the manager approached me and asked me if I would like to help train and also instruct some classes. I make good money and the people are great.
“I have to go babe. You know that.” I said before kissing his nose. He made an “argh” sound then let me go.
Luke worked at a skate shop down the road from our apartment. He only worked 5 days a week and this was one of his days off. He hates that I am always working but I am always home by 6:00 on weekends and 8:00 on weekdays. The gym was busy this time of year because of MMA season approaching and it seemed like everyone wanted me to train them.
I took a quick shower and put my hair up and when I was about to through my clothes on I heard a knock on the bathroom door. When I popped my head out I saw Luke with my phone in his hand. He was still half asleep and he looked so dang cute with his hair messed up and no shirt on.
“It is Dennis” He said then handed me my phone. Dennis is the manager of the gym and he didn’t call often. Only when he really needed me or when I was running late. I wasn’t running late so it had to be a question.
“Hey Dennis, what’s up?” I asked.
“You do not have to come in today.” He said. I was confused by why he did not want me to come in.
“Wait why?” I asked pulling my shorts on.
“Alex, do you know what today is?” He asked carefully.
I thought about it, counted the days in my head to figure out the dates and I froze. How could I forget?
It has been one year since Dean has died and in one week it will be one year since Roman has died.
I used to grave site three times a week, then it went to two, then one. But I haven’t gone to see them since I started working these crazy hours.
“Alex?” I heard Dennis say.
“Oh yeah, yeah, I’m here.” I said trying to hold back my tears that were about to fall.
“Don’t come in today okay. I will use a PTO day if you want?” Dennis said and I heard papers shuffling.
“Yeah, sure.” I said sinking to the floor. We said our goodbyes and hung up. As soon as I hit the off button I started crying. A rush of sadness took me over, remembering my brothers were dead and I still have not talked to Melody since she left. Well she did send a letter. She said she moved back to Pennsylvania and is now working is a law firm over there and that’s it. I had nothing else from her and it hurt.
