It was Sunday morning and the occupants of the castle were buzzing with the excitement of the upcoming knitting competition. At first, Hecate and Severus had outright refused to knit in front of an audience but Lucius had thrown a temper tantrum and threatened to revoke Severus' godfather rights, because Lucius Malfoy just wanted to knit goddammit. Finally, Severus had relented and in turn, had threatened Hecate with telling Julie about their conversation the night before. He even went as far as to say he would show her the memories in a Pensieve, which was quite a dirty form of manipulation but he was a Slytherin so what did she really expect. Hecate begrudgingly agreed but not without a few choice words to the Potions Master, one of the harsher ones having started with a C and ended with T.

The contestants were now sat on their chairs in a line on stage, facing the audience that had come to the great hall to watch. There were eight competitors; from left to right there was Lucius, Ada, Severus, Pippa, Julie, Hecate, Albus and Minerva. There were no rules on what they could knit, the only rule was that magic was prohibited for any part of the competition. The knitter to finish the quickest would win.

Narcissa was stood on the stage wearing a whistle that she'd borrowed from Miss Drill, she would be using it to mark the beginning and the end of the race.

The Cackle's and Hogwarts students had made banners sporting the names of the person that they wanted to win, and much to both Hecate and Snape's surprise they both had a banner in the audience with their names on. Hecate's was held by Mildred Hubble and Ethel Hallow, of all people. Mildred also held onto the end of another banner which was mostly being held by Maud and Enid, it had Julie and Pippa's names on. Hecate got that ache again at seeing their names together but chose to ignore it, not having the time to analyse her annoyingly insistent feelings right now. Snape's banner was held by little Sybil Hallow, who had taken quite a shine to him after he had helped with her potion and lent her some books to read. He'd never admit it to anyone but he had become quite fond of the girl too. Esme and Cedric, who had become quite close held a banner for Ada, Ron and Hermione held one for Minerva, but Albus seemed to have the most banners. Everyone just assumed he had probably bribed the students since even a couple of the Slytherins held one, which prompted Severus and Lucius to scowl at them and mutter about house loyalty. Draco, and surprisingly Harry, held a banner with Lucius' name on, which provoked Dumbledore to shout out traitor and rant about Harry going over to the dark side. He only shut up because Minerva cast a silencio on him and refused to lift it until he mimed zipping his lips closed, so he had to settle on glaring daggers at Harry instead.

'Are all of our contestants ready to knit?' Asked Narcissa brightly. To which every one of them replied with a 'yes.' 'Very well then. May the best knitter win!' She finished, before proceeding to blow the whistle and start the race.

The first five minutes were rather uneventful. Everyone was quietly knitting, that was until Albus started humming a tune that had Julie absentmindedly singing along.
