My mom drove Adam and I to the Minnesota Club Friday night. I wore a nice simple beige dress with a floral design.
Adam wore a black suit with a blue tie. He looked nice, well he always does, but he tried to this time.
My mom dropped us off in the front of the building, this place was fancy. The school must be richer then I thought if they could bring a bunch of teenagers to a place like this every year.
"Okay, Adam's mom will be here at 10:00 to pick you guys up."
"Okay mom, see you later." I said, rushing to go inside.
"Okay honey, love you!" she yelled as she walked away. We were there 15 minutes early so the only person there was Rick, great, I don't know what I expected though so.
"Nice, okay, help me set up the table." He said as soon as he saw us. Adam and I each grabbed a small stack of plates and started placing them in their spots. Rick was placing utensils. When we finished we just stood there, it was kinda awkward.
"Look, Anna, I'm sorry about what I said, it wasn't true, I was really, really mad." Rick said. Wow, Rick Riley was apologizing? Jeez what happened to him.
"Yea, well, it's fine I think."
"So we're good?" he asked. I was still shocked at the fact that he was apologizing.
"I guess."
"Okay good, we have five minutes before 7:00 so if you have to do something do it now." Rick said.
There was a door at one of the ends of the table, I elbowed Adam and looked at the door. I think he knew I was asking if he wanted to go in there because he nodded. We walked over and opened the door. It was a hallway. There were a ton of portraits on the wall of people, I looked at them closely, one person looked very familiar, I couldn't figure out who it was though.
"Hey, everyone getting here, let's go." Adam said as he tapped my shoulder.
"HUH? Oh yeah, okay." I said as we walked back in the doors. Not everyone was there yet but we could sit down now. I sat in between Adam and Cole.

It had been like, 2 hours I think, since the dinner started. I was extremely bored. I only ate like two bites of steak and yet I was still stuffed. Somehow Adam managed to have a whole steak and was still hungry.
"Hey, are you gonna eat that." He asked, pointing to my plate. I laughed.
"Nah, you can have it. I'm not a huge steak person."
"Sweet thanks!" he said. Rick stood up and started tapping his glass with a spoon.
"I'd like to make a toast to the future state champs. To do JV team." He said as he tapped his glass on someone else's.
Everyone started tapping glasses. I tapped my glass on Adam's.
"Now everyone stay where you are, we have another surprise." Rick said as he got out of his chair. All the varsity stood up and followed Rick to the door.
"Banks, Roberts." Rick said as he waved us over. Julie looked at me and I shrugged. I mouthed the words 'I don't know' and she nodded.
"What're we doing?" I asked Adam.
"No clue." He responded.
Rick held the door open and we walked through. We followed the team, they stopped for a second to talk to a waiter but then continued walking. They just walked, right out the door?
"What are we doing?" Adam asked, we looked at Rick. Everyone in varsity knew except us.
"Don't worrrryyyy, they'll figure things out." Rick said.
"Are you just gonna leave them with the check? They don't have money, they thought it was paid for." I said. This was another one of their 'not a big deal' pranks wasn't it?
"They'll be fine. Now go home." he said. I didn't have money I couldn't go in there and pay myself. I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I felt terrible.
