now that they knew where to look, the avengers had a plan. they were splitting into three different teams that would go to their respective time and location to retrieve their stone(s). dakota, luckily, was going to the familiar territory of 2012 new york with her father, scott, steve, hazel, and bruce to retrieve the space, mind, and time stones. nebula, rhodey, natasha, and clint were going to 2014 space, where they'd go to their respective planets. the final group was thor and rocket, who were going to asgard.
the group walked in a single file line to the quantum time machine, each wearing a matching quantum suit. dakota had pulled her hair into a high ponytail, keeping it out of her face. once the whole team had made it onto the time machine, steve turned to them.
"five years ago, we lost." steve said. "all of us. we lost friends... we lost family... we lost a part of ourselves. today, we have a chance to take it all back. you know your teams, you know your missions. get the stones, get them back. one round trip each. no mistakes. no do-overs. most of us are going somewhere we know. but it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. be careful. look out for each other. this is the fight of our lives. and we're gonna win." he turned to look at tony. "whatever it takes. good luck."
rocket looked over at him, impressed by the speech. "he's pretty good at that."
scott nodded excitedly. "i know, right!"
tony nodded, looking over to bruce, who was by the controls. "all right. you heard the man. stroke those keys, jolly green."
"tractors engaged."
natasha smiled excitedly, looking to dakota. "see you in a minute."
they all shrunk, entering the quantum realm. they broke off, splitting at different intervals to get to their desired place and time. dakota's group arrived in new york circa 2012. the chitauri were flying through the sky, and when dakota looked over her shoulder she could see herself.
or, rather, herself almost a decade prior. she was standing with hazel and the other six avengers, the group all in a circular huddle as they prepared for what could be the worst.
dakota turned to her father with a slight chuckle, pointing over at the two of them from 2012. "aw, look at them.. so young and willing to get themselves killed." she joked.
"all right," steve said as he turned to the group, "we all have our assignments. two stones uptown, one stone down. stay low. keep an eye on the clock." while steve was finishing speaking, the 2012 hulk passed by, smashing nearly everything in his way. an embarrassed bruce put a hand on his face, shaking his head. "feel free to smash a few things along the way." steve said to him.
bruce shrugged. "i think it's gratuitous, but whatever." he anticlimactically tore his shirt off, sarcastically smashing things. he lightly punched a car, making only a small dent, before making a growling noise.
"very threatening, big guy, you're doin' great!" kodie assured him, giving him a thumbs up before pressing her watch and feeling a replica of her earlier mark 65 suit materialize around her. it was her original blue and gold design, which felt creaky in comparison to the sleek nanotechnology that she'd gotten used to.
she and her father flew around the stark tower in the suits that they would've worn in 2012. they scanned the tower, and dakota saw the original avengers apprehending loki, a backside view of when clint barton pointed a bow and arrow in the demigod's face.
"got to hustle, cap." tony said through their comms. "things look like they're just about wrapped up here."
"got it." he replied. "i'm approaching the elevator now."
