Chapter five.

[Leah sneaks out with a Dane Dame ]

"Guys if we're going to die why not die in a cool way?

Anyways you want to jump out of this airplane?"

Simone had gone to Camp Jupiter.

It didn't quite register in Leah's mind until she was back at her dorm, staring up to the ceiling - well, not the ceiling, but the bottom of Alisa's bunkbed. She knew she should get some sleep, but she couldn't. Not like she'd been able to sleep for more than an hour at a time for the last year.

She'd start with training tomorrow. It was a haphazardly put together schedule, but it was the best Lin could do with no knowledge of Leah at all from before two days. It looked like this:

07.30 – 08.00 – breakfast
08.00 – 08.30 – dorm clean-up
08.30 – 09.30 – Romanian
09.30 – 10.15. – Latin
10.15 – 10.30 – Break
10.30 – 11.15 – Ancient Greek
11.15 – 12.00 – Magic control
12.00 – 13.00 – Lunch break
13.00 – 15.00 – Dragon flying
15.00 – 16.00 – Weapon training
16. 00 – 19.00 – Free time
19.00 – 20.00 – dinner
20.00 – 22.00 – War games

Leah got up, trying not to make the bed squeak like the ones in the Demeter cabin did (she knew from experience. Katie was a light sleeper). She didn't need to wait for her eyes to adjust, as she'd had them open for a while now. She walked over to the door.

Leah frowned at the piece of paper taped on the door, sitting crisscross apple sauce on the floor in front of it. The moonlight filtered through the big window behind her, but the light wasn't nearly enough to let her read the schedule. That didn't matter, seeing as she'd learned it by heart already. She blinked tiredly. What was keeping her up again? Oh right, she was afraid she'd get trapped in her subconscious if she slept for more than an hour at a time.

Leah slipped the elastic out of her hair, realizing that she'd never taken her iconic braid out. She started unbraiding her hair. She had spare time: maybe she could Iris Message Thalia? She hadn't talked to her in - how long was it, a few days? Maybe a week? Definitely too long, Leah decided.

She stood up, running a hand through her hair. She picked up the keys she'd gotten earlier that day and unlocked the door quietly, hoping not to wake up any of her roommates.

"What time is it?"

Leah froze in her tracks at the groggy voice, slowly looking back at the tired face of her bunkmate, Alisa Anker. Stupid, she thought to herself. Alisa had told Leah she was a light sleeper. Leah shushed her, rushing over to the daughter of Frigg. Her eyes flickered to the two Solomonar, but they were both fast asleep. Alisa nodded, getting the memo.

"Why are you up?" Her voice had toned down to a whisper now, although it still sounded inhumanely loud to Leah. "I'm not sneaking out," she explained. "I'm going to the showers." Alisa raised an eyebrow. "For what?"

"To Iris Message a friend." Leah sighed, not having to look to know that Alisa didn't know what she was talking about. "Listen, you can come with me for all I care," she relented. "Just don't make a racket."

Leah opened the door, waiting for Alisa to step through. She did as Leah expected, walking briskly into the cold hallway. Leah walked after her and locked the door, pocketing the key with a spare drachma she had left.

The floor - was it marble? was cold under her bare feet. She tread as lightly as she could, which was pretty light, considering she was trained for it. She sped up so she could walk side-to-side with Alisa. "I didn't catch your godly parent," Leah commented, sticking her hands in her pockets. Alisa huffed. "That's because I didn't throw it," she countered haughtily.
