Chapter six.
[War games]
"Stop justifying your actions with the law.
The law will bend to anyone's will, so stop acting
as if it only bends to yours."
Leah was really happy she'd gotten her guns back.
She twirled them in her hands, shooting once in the air. No, that was a lie. She shot twice almost endearingly with them, a soft smile on her lips.
Alisa was concerned, to say the least.
But, as all good things come to and end, she wasn't allowed to use her guns. Or any weapons, for that matter. "What did they say again?" she muttered under her breath. Damien glared at her, seeing as this was the nth time he'd had to repeat Lin's words.
"Unless you cannot use your gifts without attributes, no weapons are allowed. The only exceptions are armor and other defensive accessories, such as shields." Leah rolled her eyes, fixing her chest plate. "Can't we just fake it or something?" she grumbled. Alisa chuckled. "Funny you think there isn't security for that." She pointed at one of the few other Greek demigods.
Julia Schmidt, Leah recognized, daughter of Athena. She'd moved from the US a few years ago with her family, but she still resembled the younger version of Julia Leah had known.
"Julia Schmidt, she was two tables from us this morning," Damien confirmed. "She can do this weird thing where she looks at you and can read you like an open book." He shook his head. "She sees name, age, weight, height, abilities, family, everything. You should be happy she's on our side." "Is she always?" Leah questioned, getting up and giving Damien a hand. He shook his head.
"When we play, we play either Solomonari against non-Solomonari or you can pick teams yourself, although some people up in the ranks are obligated to play in opposite teams. But that's a rare occasion, we only do it every month or so." Leah was about to ask why when he told her. "It takes a week just to make the teams, Leah," he dead-panned.
He got up and picked a shield from the walls, adjusting the straps so they fit his arm. "You should probably also pick up a shield, Leah," he advised, but she shook her head and laughed. "No, I don't think I'll need it."
Damien raised an eyebrow. "You sure? The Solomonari are hard hitters." Leah waved it away, a smirk on her lips. "We're playing outside, right? I'll be fine." "Whatever makes you sleep at night." Damien shrugged. Before he walked out to the battle grounds, he looked back over his shoulder. "You coming?" Leah nodded.
She glanced at her guns one last time before she walked off.

Aiden hadn't ever seen something like this.
It reminded him of the beginning of the school year, really. Hundreds of people were crammed into a room, like a university's - and the lecturer was none other than Elena Cernea, the half-Zână they and Leah had met yesterday.
"She must be important, huh?" they muttered under their breath. All around him people were deep into conversation, fixing armor, posing with their shields. It reminded him to check for his own shield. He breathed a sigh of relief once he felt the familiar cool metal strapped onto his back.
"Hello recruits!" Elena's voice boomed in the hall, and at once the once chattering people grew as silent as a mouse. Expectant eyes looked up at the half-blood, as Leah would call her kind.
