Choon Hee's POV:

Hot. It's very hot outside today.

I'm turning 5 today! Five is my favorite number. It's like a midpoint, not too high not too low.

Is Jay stalling again. He takes very good care of me, but lately when it comes to playing he doesn't seem as excited as he did before.

I take a look around my backyard, birds flying away with each step I take. The sun was beating down on me as I walk under no shade.

Blue skies, small clouds, one shaped like a kitten even. Jay often mentions these small things whenever we're outside. Almost like he's keeping watch of everything he sees.

Sun. I've never taken a chance to see the color of it. Looking into it seems yellow, some orange, white, even. When looking at it its like everything around it disappears.

I look away for a bit to see my bear in my hands, my eyes still adjusting to the lighting. My bear's name is Honey. She had golden eyes with a little sparkle in them.

I looked up again, but this time, the sun had a bit more color.

Green, blue, pink. I never knew the sun could be so colorful. But why, the more I look, it fades a little. My eyes went watery, but I wiped them to see the bright ball in the sky. What's the word? Chromatic. Jay once described a spoon that color. Dark, shiny, colorful.

I looked down at Honey again, but where did the golden sparkles in her eyes go? Why can I only see a silhouette of her in my hands?

"Choon Hee! I found my bear!" I looked in Jay's direction.

I saw a dark figure approach me. Jay? Why do you look like that?

"Jay? Is that you?" My eyes felt dry but I'm not sure why.

"Who else could I be? Come on let's play now!" He took a hold of my wrist and walked me where he went.

I felt uneasy, confused, its been a minute but I still can't see clearly. Jay took Honey from my hands. "Ok, do you want to play school? Or maybe house like last time?"

"Jay, is the sun still out?" Maybe the clouds gave us shade and the sun wasn't out to give light.

"Yes? It's clearly hot outside, now quickly choose a game to play." He was right, it was hot outside. I could feel the sun beating down but why, why was the light so faint?

I was scared. Why are things blurred and dark? Does Jay not realize whats wrong with the outside? I shed a tear, two.

"Hey, hey whats wrong? Mom! Choon Hee what's there to cry about" Jay wrapped his arms around me and called for mom. "What's the matter?" I quickly looked in my moms direction.

Where is she? Can she see me? I cried louder. Why can't I see them? Why can I only see different shades of darkness?

"Shh, shh, Choon Hee tell me what's wrong." The sound of my moms voice was comforting. But in that, I still couldn't see the person I found comfort in.

"Why can't I see you?" I cried louder. "What do you mean?" A hand was placed on my forehead, a metal ring was felt, allowing me to know it was mom's.

"Are you not feeling well? Tell me, what happened?" I tried to calm down, short breathes were taken, causing me to cough a little.

"I, I was looking at the sky. I wanted to see the sun, and-"

"Jay. Call an ambulance now."

As Jay ran inside, my mom hugged me tight. "Can you see me? Choon Hee, listen to me, can you see me?"

"No. Can you see me?" She quickly picked me up without response and carried me to the front yard. Jay sounded busy rushing in and out of the house while I remain in my mom's arms. A drop of water fell on my arm. "Is it raining?", I asked my mom. She replied sniffing her nose, hugging me closer towards her.

Authors POV:

"Is there anything? Anything you can do?" Their mother cried to the ophthalmologist.

Jay was waiting in the children's waiting room, worried.

"We will try these eye drops, but other than that, I'm sorry but there isn't much we can do. The amount of light that damaged her eyes is enough for her to not be able to see much for the rest of her life." Mrs. Park had tears streaming down her face as she cupped her child's face.

"These eye drops are prescripted to help sooth her eyes and heal some of what was damaged. But if you still have concerns please do not hesitate to call us."

As they drove home, the car was silent. Everyone hesitant to say anything. Tears were shed, but not much could be done.

Their father took leave and stayed home for a while to bring comfort and help to his family.

Unfortunately, Choon Hee's 5th birthday was a sad and burdening day for their family. On the brighter side, she was only 5, which gave her an easier time to adjust to her blindness.

For Jay however, it wasn't as easy for him.
