SERENITY

"I'll be here at six Friday morning, please don't make me wait, Ms. Taylor," was the last thing Mr. Harrington said to me that night.
I was partially excited that I'd be spending a weekend in luxury, the other half of me was freaking the fuck out that I'd be spending it with my boss. In the seven months, I've known Noah Harrington he'd only shown me one side of him. The Noah that hated his coffee cold, hated when people were late, and hated to repeat himself. Was I going to see the side of him that turned up the radio when I told him I liked a song and wore circular glasses enjoying a nice book in his library?
Drew was also taken aback by the bidding, only because he wanted to be the one to go on the trip instead of me. He confronted his friend, reminding him of their twenty plus years of friendship he was tossing in the trash. His guilt trip was overly dramatic, to say the least, and Mr. Harrington didn't buy into it either. Instead, he told Drew to be on call and enjoy his weekend.
My poor baby.
I tore through my closet, dissatisfied with all of the clothes I owned. If I wasn't going to get Mr. Harrington's attention, I was going to get someone else's and I needed the right outfit to do it. I stuffed my suitcase with anything and everything provocative I owned and tucked it into a corner. I was packed and ready to go two days early but I didn't care, there was no way I was going to be late for this.
To get my mind off of the impending trip, I decided to have lunch with Ness who was angry at me for my absence. I had been neglecting my friend for the past couple of days and I missed her cute face, even when it was yelling at me.
"And next time make sure your phone is charged! I was worried sick about you."
"I know, I was being careless. Forgive me?" She sighed heavily and took a sip of her drink, tapping her manicured finger on the glass. "Fine, but I want details, how was the sex?"
How dare she remind me, "It was lackluster, I had to finish myself off when we were done." She gasped and placed a hand over her heart in disgust, "that's the worst, I'm sorry babes." I shrugged it off and took a bite of my sandwich, no sense in crying over it now.
"Enough about me for now, I saw you on IG posted up on Alec's lap, care to explain?"
She smiled so hard, her cheeks turned red. She'd confessed she and Alec had a mature adult conversation about where their relationship was going. He didn't want to play games anymore and made it very clear he wouldn't. I guess him standing up to her was what she needed to finally start taking him seriously because she's seen him every day since.
"What does Alec do by the way? You never mentioned it."
"He's a lawyer and has his own firm."
Impressive, well done Vanessa.
"Well, I'm happy things are working out between you two. Don't go overthinking and fuck it up." She laughed into her drink snorting, "mhm, and what's been going on with that dreamy boss of yours?"
I told her about our day at the restaurant, Jane Houston, the vacation. I was probably making it sound way more interesting than it was by the way she hung onto every word.
I couldn't help it, it was the writer in me.
"It's so obvious he bid on that vacation to be alone with you because he can't do it at home." She was proud of her observation, but it wouldn't be healthy for me to feed into it.
