Fuck Up The Friendship - Leah Kate
After what happened the team and I decided to let the reserve driver drive during P2 and P3 as to not over exhaust me. I watched all the practices from the garage with the utmost focus. Now that Max was not in the picture I wanted to focus on my racing and become even better and maybe letting the reserve driver drive could offer me new perspective.
I was going through stats in my driver's room once more after wanting to analyse them again for quali in a few hours.
I was exhausted, I was more motivated than ever but these weeks have really taken an effect on my body.
I heard two sharp knocks at the door making me lose focus from the data I was going over.
"Come in." I half shouted, somewhat annoyed by the person making me lose my focus.
"I'm sorry, were you busy?." I heard Charles' thick french accent fill the room making me smile. I always loved the way he sounded in English.
"It's okay, come in." I waved him over after he came to a halt midway through the door.
He looked over at my bed, taking his seat.
You did great in practice., how did the car feel?" I asked, turning my chair so I could face him instead of my desk.
"Should I share this information with a Red Bull driver?." He laughed.
"No but you should anyway.""The car felt alright, just a lot of vibrations on the medium tyres." He explained, rubbing his now closed eyes, seeming tired.
"Are you okay?, how are things?." I asked, referring to the break up he went through.
"I'm okay, you've really helped me Anna." He said while looking up at me, making heat spread to my cheeks.
I always hated when people got all sappy in from of me because I felt like i couldn't do the same. I'm not the type of person who can just pour their emotions out, especially with people I don't know too well yet.
"I'm glad I could help you in some sort of way, do you still talk to her?." I asked, immediately getting into the zone where I always give advice to people.
"I think I would have but I've been pretty distracted by someone else lately." He confessed, making me raise my eyebrows.
"And who may this lucky lady be?."I teased, making him chuckle before he started looking down at the ground, looking all serious.
"There's this girl I met a while back and i just can't get her out of my mind, she's so kind and I just feel so happy when I'm around her, it's wrong though. She's got a boyfriend and I can't ruin that, I don't want to be like that." He admitted.
He looked pretty upset which made me feel bad, i just didn't know what I could do about it, i think its safe to say I'm not the best when it comes to love."I'm not some sort of love expert but I'd say, keep her close, we hate breaking things up but at the same time, maybe it could be better than what they've had before." I advised him.
"Thank you for everything Anna, you're the best." He said while getting up.
"I'll get out of your way now but see you on the track?."
"For sure."The hours went by pretty quick and before i knew it I was back in the car.
I was lucky enough they managed to fix the damage and even get some practice in.
We decided to start on mediums, knowing we could get in the top 15 with mediums, I ended Q1 in P7, allowing us to put softs on and use them as a start tyre. The car felt great, I felt great. Everything seemed to be working out and at last i ended Q2 in P2, right behind Max. Joy overwhelmed but there was still a part of me that was saddened by Max and I not being able to celebrate it together, the team and I celebrated while Max and I tried to stay away from each other. Sad glances were sent each other's way but I had to stay strong and believe this was the best thing to do right now.
I went back into my driver's room and 10 minutes later I heard the door slam open with Charles coming into the room with a big smile spread across his face.
"YOU DID SO WELL." He shouted making me chuckle.
He pulled me in for a hug making me gladly accept it.
At first the hug didn't seem weird in any way until we didn't part, he kept holding onto me and I didn't want to let go.
After like 5 minutes he let go, looking straight into my eyes without saying a word.
"I can't let you slip between my fingers, not now." I heard him say before he crashed his lips into mine.
