George had tears streaming down his face, his breathing uneven as he wrapped his arms around Dream and pulled him close.
He voice was desperate, broken up by sobs as he continued to plead, "please, Dream. Please wake up, you have to wake up. I need you here."
But no matter what he tried, no matter how hard he begged, Dream still didn't wake up; his near lifeless body simply lying limp in George's arms, his head rolled back, eyes still closed.
George couldn't focus on anything other than Dream, holding him close to his body even as paramedics burst through the door, the energy around him turning chaotic. He felt himself being pulled away from the blonde, desperate pleas dropping from his mouth even as Niki wrapped him up in her arms, tears running down her face as she pulled him away and tried to comfort him.
But he was inconsolable, watching the scene before him unfold as Dream's body was surrounded by strangers in uniforms, words being called out between them as they worked quickly in an attempt to revive him.
George couldn't understand anything they were saying, their words being drowned out by the sound of his own heartbeat thudding loudly in his ears. He was helpless to do anything but stand there, tears still running down his face as he watched them lift Dream onto a stretcher, a white blanket covering him from the shoulders down.
George kept his eyes locked on Dream the entire time; from the minute the paramedics led them out of the room, until they were seated in the back of the ambulance. He was searching the blonde's face desperately for the smallest sign of movement; a flutter of his eyes, a twitch of his mouth, just something to let George know that he was still here, that he could hear his voice and that he wasn't going anywhere.
But that sign never came, there was only a peaceful stillness in Dream's face. It was almost as if he were only sleeping, although George knew that was the furthest thing from the truth.
And now, he was left to sit there, his eyes desperately searching Dream's face as they barreled towards the hospital. Niki was sitting beside him, clutching his hand in both of hers, comforting words rushing out of her mouth in a hushed tone.
But George was lost in his own thoughts, his mind reeling as he replayed his last conversation with Dream; or rather, his last argument with Dream.
Now, he couldn't believe he could have been so selfish. He knew that Dream had needed him, but he had still chosen to walk out the door, to leave Dream to face the daunting task of getting better all on his own.
He had always worried that this would be the outcome of his decision, that Dream would quickly spiral without anyone there to support him or watch over him. And now his worst fears had come true.
He wished more than anything that he could take it all back, that he could go back to that day and make a different decision. He should have stayed, he should have worked through his problems with Dream, done anything he could to help him. But now, he might never get the chance.

George leaned back in his chair, dropping his eyes down to the tile floor in front of him, a quiet sigh escaping from his mouth. His hands moved to brush a few lingering tears from his face, his eyes puffy and red from hours of crying.
Niki shifted in her chair beside him, her hand rubbing soothing circles against his back, her voice gentle as she quietly muttered, "it's going to be okay, George. Everything is going to be okay."
George only nodded, same as he had done every other time Niki had tried to console him over the past few hours.
They had been sitting in the hospital waiting room for hours now, both of them silent as they watched people mill in and out of the room.
