Once you were on the rooftops, you began to put your plan into action. You peered over the side of the roof to see Ludwig moving through the street. He then turned onto a side street, as if he was nothing more but strolling through the town. You turned and began running and jumping over the gaps between the rooftops the same way you entered the safe house, trying your best to remain as light footed as possible as you gripped your bow and an arrow in each of your hands respectively. You ran through the plan in your head as you listened to the soft patting of your feet on the roof.

You and Ludwig were to meet up at the a oak tree that was a short distance away from the town. It was Summer, so the leaves on the tree would provide concealment if necessary. Once you both met there, you could then move down the path to the border of your country and escape.

You were glad to see that the guards only stayed on the Main Street, and that from what you could tell, were dozing off. Your former boss must be working them to death for them to act like that- you didn't doubt that.

You reached the end of the roofs and stopped. The large oak tree was in sight, but you would have to move across a vast vacant field to make it there. You noticed a little ladder you could use to climb down to the ground on, and scanned the ground area for any guards. It was clear, so you threw your bow over your shoulders and quickly made your way down.

Frequently looking over your shoulder, you made your way to the large tree and climbed into the sturdy branches. You positioned yourself to sit where you could see the town through the leaves. You were worried- where was Ludwig?

"I'm not leaving without him," you thought. You then felt something poke your shoulder, and you quickly turned around. Ludwig was crouched on the branch behind you. He didn't appear to have any injuries, which was a good sign.

He looked around the tree, then hopped down and held out his arms to catch you. Returning your bow to a bracelet and replacing your arrow back into your purse, you nervously slid off of the branch and into his muscular arms. He held you for a second before releasing you.

"Let's go," he whispered. You nodded and both quickly moved down the path that pointed southwest, away from the town. After you had both been walking for a good half hour, the path ran through a forest.

Since there were still about six hours before sunrise, you both decided to move into the forest and rest. You found a small clear stream and settled there. Ludwig insisted on keeping watch, but after a couple minutes of arguing, you both compromised to split the time evenly.

You curled up against Ludwig as he warmly wrapped his arm around you and leaned against a tree.

You were back in that sickly familiar room once more, dreading the memories it held. The familiar room in which you watched your father's death.

Your boss then walked into the room smiling as the chair materialized in the center of the room. He pulled some chains out from behind his back, his smile growing wider.

"It's your turn, (Y/N)."

You did everything in your power to escape- screaming, hitting, kicking, and biting. It was if every blow to him made him stronger. You were soon bound to the chair, and he stood back and smiled at you. You wanted nothing more than to simply be rid of this.

You were awakened from your nightmare by shaking.

"(Y/N)! (Y/N), please wake up!"

Your eyes shot open, as tears were streaming down your face and you were breathing heavily. Ludwig was holding you by your shoulders and staring at you intently.

Aware of what was happening, you quickly wiped your eyes and took in a shaky gasp of air in an attempt to steady yourself.

"I'm sorry," you whispered, slightly sniffling.

"What happened?" he asked. "You're obviously not okay if you're crying."

You stared at him blankly. No one has ever taken such an interest in your life, besides your dad when he was alive. You then closed your eyes and explained everything to him. When you finished, you opened your eyes to find him looking into your own with sorrow. He didn't say anything for a moment.

"I never knew..." he trailed off. You blinked once and straightened your posture.

"It's the past- it's behind me," you flatly stated in an attempt to block out your emotions. "The best thing is to move forward from it. Besides, I have more pressing matters right now."

He studied you a moment longer.

"Well, it's your turn to watch," he replied. You nodded and sat up and moved to sit in front of him. He moved his gun onto his lap and leaned back against the tree once more and closed his eyes.
