New routine

Eleanor's POV

I stare at my reflection, smoothing the dress down my sides. I've chosen a simple black dress which goes down a few inches above my knees, but have added gold jewellery, a gold clutch and black and gold shoes to make it more interesting. I curled my hair and left it down, I check the time on my phone to see it has just turned 8 and at the same time, I hear a knock at my door.

I rush down the stairs excitedly, and pull open the front door to see James standing there with a beautiful bouquet of red roses, 'For you, you look beautiful' he smiles.

I blush and take them from him, walking into the kitchen to grab a vase, I place them in a fill the vase with water, the roses smell beautiful. I walk back to the front door where he's waiting 'Thank you' I tell him, closing my front door and following him to his car as he holds the door open for me.

Once he jumps in, I ask 'where are we going?'

'A seafood restaurant, I think you'll like this one' he tells me, revving the engine as he pulls away, his hand coming to rest just above my knee, I place my hand over his, rubbing it gently with my thumb. It took less than half an hour to arrive at the restaurant, it was beautiful, dimly lit with a man in a tuxedo playing the piano on a raised platform, as expected from a CEO. I already know it's going to be an amazing night.

Unknown POV

I stood in a dark alley and checked my watch, 9:30pm, earlier than usual but I have to work with what I've got. I stared across at the mental hospital and pulled my black cap down further to cover my face completely.

The police think they're clever, adding officers to the night watch but I'm more clever. Now that there's police patrolling, the hospital's security guards have become less vigilant and have been taking more breaks. The police officers don't start their shift until 10, I'll be finished before then.

I watch as one of the security guards leaves his post and heads into the hospital, walking past the empty reception area, he's going on break and he's going to swap with the other security guard. At 10 they're both going to sit in their office and half heartedly watch CCTV whilst the police stand outside, but because the police won't allow them to leave the hospital they're taking their breaks before the police start. Fools.

The security guard comes back out, gulping down water from a half empty bottle as he walks down the street, probably to the nearest fast food restaurant. I pull out my phone and walk slowly the edge of the alley, I need to time this perfectly.

Sixty seconds pass and I disable the hospital's CCTV using my phone before checking both ways and crossing the street. The automatic doors open as I approach and I walk in silently, there's no one around. I walk straight through to the downstairs bathroom and slip in quietly, not turning on the light.

The elevator dings and I hold my breath, I can hear heavy boots thudding along the floor as the second security guard walks past the toilet I'm hiding in. This is their new routine, one of the guards goes on break at 8, the remaining security guard comes out of the office and takes up patrol at the entrance. Once the guard on break returns they both head into their office, the guard on break always grabs something for the other guy to eat quickly before he returns to his post at the front door. And at 9:30 the second guard goes on break and the process repeats and when the police turn up at 10 they both sit in the office and the police stand at the entrance all night, their routine is just too easy.

I hear the slide of the automatic doors and I slowly push the toilet door open a crack, I peek through the gap, the guard paces at the door before walking further out onto the pavement, his back to the hospital as he stretches his arms over his head and yawns loudly. I slip out of the toilet and make sure to close the door silently behind me. I walk quietly but quickly up the stairs,  all the nurses and cleaners have gone home, the only workers still here are the security guards. I watched every single one of them leave.

I make it quickly up to the fifth floor, and peak out of the window at the far end of the hallway, I can see the shadow of the guard under a street lamp as he stands by the entrance. I walk down the hallways counting the door numbers. 514.

I pick the lock of the door and walk in, the light is still on inside, the woman laying on the bed is only half asleep and looks up at me as I enter. I lock the door behind me, she opens her eyes and stares at me in confusion.

'Hello Judith, do you remember me?' I smirk, she groans as she tries to sit up, I pull up my cap revealing my face, her eyes widen slightly in recognition. 'Don't worry Judith, you're not actually crazy, you don't really deserve to be in the asylum, but I needed them to think that because how else would I be able to get to you this easily?'

She lets out another groan, she cannot speak very coherently with the amount of medication she's on, she slurs words that I don't understand. I glance down at my watch, it's already been three minutes, I need to hurry.

I walk closer to her bed, 'You knew me very well Judith, but in reality you don't know me at all, I'm the reason why you're in this asylum and I'm also going to be the reason why you leave this asylum, in a coffin, but don't worry I'm sure your organs will be put to good use'

I pull the knife out of it's hiding place in my baggy trousers, Judith begins to scream but I quickly grab one of the pillows and press it against her face, muffling her screams. I stab her once in the stomach, a second time in the chest and a third time in the throat. As her noises die down, I return the pillow back to where it was behind her head, my leather gloves making noise as I wipe the bloody knife on the pillow, the blood soaks the bed and I step back.

I return the knife back in my trousers and leave the room, I glance out of the window in the hallways, the guard is pacing outside, good. I rush down the stairs and slip into the same toilet as his back is turned.

It was a long five minute wait in the toilet but I hear a pair of thudding boots walk past the toilet and the chatter of the guards, I stare down at my phone, quarter to ten. The elevator dings and their voices disappear as the elevator doors close. I slip out of the toilet and back into the empty reception area. I walk out of the asylum and onto the empty street, looking both way as I walk down the pavement, I pull out my phone and enable the security cameras again, by the time the guards make it back to their office the CCTV will be back on again and they won't suspect a thing.

One of the nurses will find Judith tomorrow morning. I send a text Done. The police will be back tomorrow to investigate once her body is found, they won't suspect me, and even if they do I already have an alibi.
