Eleanor's POV
'So what you're telling me, is that Mr Andrews does have a mother and sister?' Oliver stares at me in confusion. I am currently in his basement with him, he swings round on his office chair so his back is now facing his computer and he's looking straight at me. After the events yesterday at the mental hospital I knew I had a lot to tell Oliver.
'Yes, I already told you this over the phone about a week ago' I roll my eyes at him.
'I know, I remember' he nods, 'but after you did, I went through all my files again to see if there was a link that I missed but I found nothing, I have never seen or heard or even got the impression that he had a mother and sister, I presumed his parents were dead'
'Well you clearly didn't look very hard, he introduced them both to me over dinner not too long after I started working with him' I explain.
'Wow he must really trust you, well actually he is clearly romantically interested in you seeing as you both went on a date' he stated, I blushed. 'But still, I even stalked him like I do with everyone else in this town, for quite a long time too and I have never once seen him with any women, and the only people who have ever gone in or out of his mansion are himself, I genuinely have not seen a single person ever step foot in his home' Oliver insists.
'Well, maybe his mother and sister don't live with him or visit him' I shrug a shoulder, 'But I do know that when I went there to grab the files from his desk there was definitely someone there with me in that huge mansion'
He nods, 'And there was that time when you heard the chains and talking underneath the floorboards of his living room' I nod along with him. I feel a bit guilty standing here and talking with Oliver about James, he's been nothing but nice to me... granted sometimes a bit cold and straightforward, but he treats me noticeably better than others, and like Oliver said he has taken a romantic interest in me.
'So tell me about what happened yesterday' Oliver raises an eyebrow, he reaches back towards his desk and pulls out a notepad and pen from one of the drawers, before turning back to me, if he was a cat then his ears would be straight up and pointing towards me, I don't even think he's blinking.
'Well' I begin, looking away from his strong gaze as he leans forward slightly in his chair, anyone would think I was about to tell him the secrets of the universe. 'I went to the mental hospital at around 8ish in the evening, the receptionist was still there and there was a security guard but it was pretty empty, I remember James told me on our date that his father is a patient there so I asked for a Mr Andrews but the receptionist said there was no patient under that name, so I sneaked upstairs but I was caught by one of the male nurses, his name is Matthew and he also told me there's no one in the hospital with that name, then I left and ran into Logan Fisher in an alley way and he said he had a job to do last night and left walking towards the hospital but I don't know if he actually went in or walked past it.'
'Interesting' he nods, scribbling down notes frantically before spinning back round to face his desk, 'turn on the TV behind you, if a murder occurred last night then this immediately puts Logan Fisher in a suspicious position and also find me Matthew's file, there's a lot of Matthew's in this town but hopefully the fact that he works in the hospital should narrow it down'
I roll my eyes slightly at his commands, before grabbing the remote and turning on the TV making sure it's on the local news channel that's currently discussing the weather. I head over to his large filing cabinets, going through the alphabet before finding 'M'. I flick through them and briefly read their professions, I had to go through about six files before I finally found him, his picture was attached and I recognised him easily.
'Got it' I stated, walking over to his desk and placing the file down in front of him as he typed quickly on his computer, his fingers flying over the keyboard.
'We interrupt this schedule to tell you that a breaking story has just come through, a nurse from East-Hollow Mental Hospital has reported that an elderly male patient has been shot dead, we join one of our reporters who has just arrived at the hospital for further information'
Oliver and I immediately turn our heads towards the TV, 'No way!' I exclaim, but he shushed me quickly. The screen then shows a reporter holding a microphone standing just outside of the hospital, behind him there are people rushing in and out of the entrance of the hospital and police has taped around the entrance of the building.
'Good morning, I am joined here live just outside East-Hollow Mental Hospital by the nurse who found the dead body, Matthew please tell us what happened' the news reporter says, the camera zooms out and there stands Matthew a couple of feet away from the reporter in his uniform, staring down the barrel of the camera.
'That's him! The same nurse I met last night' I exclaim, Oliver shushes me again. A small worry starts to build deep inside me, what if Matthew says on live TV that he suspects me? What if I went around the same time as the murder occurred? What if I was the only suspicious person they saw last night? They would definitely remember me dressed in all black and turning up past visiting hours and asking about a patient who's not there and then sneaking into the hospital. Regret instantly fills me, I should not have gone last night. Even if Matthew decides not to mention me if questioned by police, the receptionist or security guard still might, plus I could be on CCTV.
'Well, I was working the night shift but did not see anyone suspicious or hear anything suspicious, this morning another of the nurses was running late so I had to cover her until she arrived, I entered one of her patient's rooms but he was not responding as I pulled back the covers of his bed, I could see blood and other bodily fluids so I called the police and an ambulance, but I could tell that he had been dead for quite some time' Matthew explains slowly, he does not appear distressed by the death at all, maybe he has gotten used to finding the patients as these murders have been going on for a long time now.
The reporter starts talking again, 'The body is currently on its way to being autopsied to determine the time of death so that police can begin their investigation, the question now is how many more deaths will there be? And when will ever get a breakthrough in this case? This is clearly a very intelligent and skilled murderer and the police need to improve their strategies'. The news the cuts back to the presenter at the studio who moves on to a different topic, after saying that they will update us once the autopsy is complete, Oliver and I sit in silence.
