Peter, like usual, was exhausted. He had been up late training with the Avengers and on his way home he was side tracked by more than a few muggings. Peter stumbled over to his locker and opened it. He felt so drained but he tried to put of a front. Only his best friend Ned could see through it.

"Woah dude, you look really tired." Ned smiled as he opened his own locker which was adjacent to Peter's.

"Yeah I was up late because of the Stark internship," Peter explained and Ned nodded.

"I'm really happy for you man, but we have got to get together to build my new lego set, and I'd prefer it if you didn't fall asleep." Ned said and Peter gave an apologetic smile.

"I'm really sorry Ned, how about next week?" Peter said, vowing that he would get a good night's sleep the night before. Ned was his only friend at midtown high, well beside Michelle but no one really talked to her. The only reason Peter knew Michelle was because there was only one table reserved for losers without friends and that's where Ned and Peter had to sit and where Michelle chose to read. She sometimes eavesdropped and gave her smart-ass comments but besides that Peter never really spoke to her. Anyways Peter grabbed his books and he and Ned made their way to history. The day was going alright until second period Chem. It was usually Peter's favorite class but today was taking an awful twist.

Second period was going well. Peter was partnered with Ned and Michelle, who rarely spoke except to tell them what she did to the experiment. Peter received a text halfway through class and glanced down at his phone. 'Training later today, but then Wanda and Vision are making everyone Pizza so you better stay for dinner.' It was Tony. Peter smiled, he was glad to be invited and to be considered part of the group. The Avengers were basically a family and Peter was a part of it even though he still insisted on living with his aunt May.

"What you doing Peter?" Michelle said, staring at him and catching him off guard.

"Nothing." Peter replied, slipping his phone in his back pocket. Michelle glared suspiciously at Peter but then went back to the experiment at hand. A few minutes passed when Peter's spidey sense was set off just as a loud BANG echoed through the school. Everyone jumped, Peter looked to Michelle and then at the door. Ned went to the washroom. He wasn't in the class. The teacher was already moving to shut the door, because that sound was terrifyingly recognizable. It was a gunshot. Peter ran to the front of the classroom but the teacher caught his arm at the door. The announcements suddenly confirmed everyone's fears, there was a shooter in the school.

"Peter, you can't go out there!" Mr Cobbwell hissed, whilst still tightly holding Peter's arm.

"But Ned!" Peter snapped back.

"It doesn't matter, it's my job to keep you-" Peter had heard enough. He yanked his arm free and ran into the hall.

"Peter!" Michelle called, but Peter wasn't turning back. He had to find Ned.

The first thing Peter did was silence his phone, he was a superhero but that didn't make him bulletproof. Peter didn't want to be found by the shooter and he knew that Ned could've safely found his way into a classroom but Peter had to be sure. Peter carefully made his way to the boys washroom, the door there had a broken lock. The school had been trying to get it fixed for over a week in case of this very scenario. Peter quietly opened the door and walked into the washroom. He didn't say anything, just in case the shooter was already inside. Peter heard breathing in one of the stalls and slowly pushed the door open.
