Last day of school, meaning tryouts for the tigers baseball team were tomorrow.

I knew I would yet again get stuck as a cheerleader but it didn't hurt to tryout.

"Y/n! You gotta help me today! Tryouts are tomorrow and I haven't been able to practice all week!" My brother said to me.

"I asked you three times this week if you wanted to go outside and practice but you said no each time!"

"Blah blah blah come on! You know if your a cheerleader I gotta be on the team!"

"Fine I'll help you. But only if you tell the coach I don't wanna be a cheerleader."

"I tell him every year and he always says the same time! Girls belong-"

"Girls belong on the cheer team or on a softball team I know."

"I gotta go this is my last class then summer vacation."

"Last class!? I still have two more!"

"I'm in sports. Your not."

"Whatever."

I walked into my classroom which was across the hall from my brothers.

"Rodriguez?" The teacher was already taking attendance.

"Here."

Rodriguez was a good baseball player, but his team... not so much they all looked like weird kids non of them looked like baseball kids.

"Smalls?"

Smalls. He was a weird kid but somehow hung out with Rodriguez.

"H-here!"

"Phillips?"

"Here." I said

"That's everyone."

I was always late to class and my name always got called last.

That's how it worked and I wasn't mad about it.

As I sat in Mrs.Whites boring class, I thought about how it would be to be a real player.

Which I knew I would never get to feel.

"Y/n? Can you answer the question?"

"What question?"

"In case of an emergency who do you call?"

"My dad."

"No. It's good to know the people who weren't paying attention."

I rolled my eyes.

"Benjamin. Do you know the answer?"

"The answer to what?"

"I know it's the last day of school. But it is still school so I suggest you all PAY ATTENTION."

Rodriguez licked his lips and looked at the teacher.

I watched him do this a lot. That's how you knew Rodriguez was paying attention.

As I got out of my class I looked into my brothers classroom. It was empty.

Of course he let them go early.

I walked to my class which had the most annoying kid of all in it.

Hamilton Porter.

Porter always had comebacks that made my blood boil.

As I glared at Porter and realized he wasn't looking back at me.

He was looking at the clock.

So as anyone would, I raised my hand above the clock.

I saw as Porters eyes shifter to mine.

I gave a cheeky grin.

Porter rolled his eyes and focused on the teacher.

I put my hand down and focused on the teacher as well.

I noticed that his eyes kept going back to the clock.

Then it happened. The teacher closed his book and paused.

Every kid in the class looked up at the clock.
Everyone knew it was 2:30.
Everyone knew he had to dismiss us.

Everyone knew summer had really started.

"You can go."

Everyone rushed out of the classroom. It was like something outta a movie.

Every kid in the school rushing out those two doors.

I rushed with them. Eventually getting towards the front.

I got out and ran, as did every kid.

But the ones who ran the fastest were always the ones who did sports or the stupid sandlot kids.

I ran home to see Christopher out playing catch with dad.

"Hey y/n your mother needs help in the kitchen." My father said as I walked past them.

"Kay."

I walked inside and went to the kitchen.

My mother was making cookies.

"Oh sweetie! Could you hand me the chocolate chips?"

My mother was taking cookies out of the oven.

"Why do we need so many cookies?" I asked luring some into the cookie badder.

"To help you brother get on the team! We always make them."

"Oh...right...about that..."

"Sweetie, I know your not taking about joining again."

"Just one more try!"

"No. Remember last year? You complained the whole year about how you were on the cheer team."

"Because it's not fair! How come Christopher always gets to try? And he always makes it!"

"That's the point! You don't ever make it!" My mother waved me out of the kitchen.

It was unfair! I never got to play EVER while my brother had played every year! Maybe if I tried out as a guy I would be treated like one...

If I tried out at a guy...I would be treated like one...

That was it! I was going to try out as a boy and they wouldn't be able to put me in the cheer team!

That was the plan. That was what I was going to do.
