Forth of July.

It was the best night of the year. Not only because of the fireworks. Because this was a special night.

A night that for some reason doesn't make sense on what happened.

The night game we played only lasted about 10 minutes before everyone got distracted.

Everyone but Benny.

Everyone was distracted by the fireworks but I was distracted by Benny.

Benny was just perfect...

The was he ran, the way he smiled when he ran, the way his eyes were focused on the ground. Not worrying about the fireworks at all.

When Benny looked up from the ground he saw everyone distracted.

"GUYS."

Everyone snapped back to the baseball game.

Squints ran and got the ball.

We finished off that night by sitting on the ground and watching fireworks.

Even Benny sat and watched.

As the sky lit up I barely noticed that Benny was next to me.

"Y/n..." he whispered.

"Yea?" I whispered not taking my eyes off the sky.

"Will you go out with me?" Benny whispered.

Will I go out with him, ha.

WILL I GO OUT WITH HIM?

My head turned faster then my brain could comprehend.

"What?" I whispered back.

"Nothing..."

"No tell me."

"No it's ok. Just focus on the fireworks." Benny didn't go back to looking at the fireworks he looked at the ground.

Eventually the fireworks were over and everyone got up.

Although when my focus was off the fireworks I realized Benny was gone.

"He went home. He never stays for the end." Squints said.

"Yeah..yeah..." everyone was tired.

I was glad it wasn't because of me.

I walked home and had to sneak in because my parents were already asleep.

The next day Benny wasn't at the usual meet up spot first.

He was always first.

"Well I guess Benny's not coming. Come on."

Everyone acted like they always did.

We went to the sandlot, and surprisingly there he was.

I let out a big sigh to know that yet again I wasn't stopping Benny from coming.

Although it was awkward.

I was up to bat today.

"Come on DeNunez!"

He threw the ball and I hit it.

Obviously I hit it.

I started running and actually got to home this time.
