As I walked home with Benny, he didn't say anything.
"Hey Benny I was wondering..."
"What."
"Uh do you maybe want to go to the fair with me? Just us?"
Was I really about to ask him on a date? Yes. Yes I was.
"I'm busy." He kept a blank facial expression.
"Well not tonight obviously."
"Sorry, no."
I sighed.
"That's cool, I'll ask yeah-yeah instead."
"No, you won't."
He grabbed my hands.
Now, he looked...angry.
"Why not..?"
"Because I don't want you to."
"Well, I mean I asked you and you said no so I was just going to ask him."
His grip on my hands got tighter.
"Can you let go? My hands hurt!"
"Not until you tell me what I want to hear."
"Listen Benny, I'm really sorry about last night I just didn't know what to say..."
His grip loosened.
"...I really do like you it's just I would never think a guy like you would confess to a girl like me!"
He smiled and let go of my hands.
"Why wouldn't I confess to you?"
"Because every girl has a crush on you it's insane that you like me!"
"But I don't like the other girls...I like you."
"Yeah I know! You said that already."
He sighed.
"Do you want to go to the fair or not?" I asked one final time.
This time he smiled.
"I don't know...I'll have to see, I have a very busy schedule." He had a grin on his face.
"Ok, you do that, if you wanna go though I gotta know by tomorrow, deal?"
He shook his head and we continued walking.
When we got to my house I was happy, the awkward walk had been so strange...
I walked inside and took off my hat.
"Y/n who was that?" My brother tried to look behind me.
"Nobody."
"Who's nobody?"
"Nobody."
"Yeah who is it?"
"None of your business Chris."
"It better not be a stupid sandlot boy, like Porter..."
I sighed and tried to walk past him.
"You not going anywhere till you tell me who it was."
"Dadddd!" I yelled.
"Snitch."
I smirked and my dad came around the corner.
"Chris is being annoying."
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
