After finding the threatening note, the two detectives split up to search the rest of the apartment. They hope to discover more information about Hyunwoo, perhaps even a motive for his crimes.
"So we have a suspect, right? Every Wednesday night he decides to stab one of his family members to death." Chantelle sighs, walking around the living room area. "But why? What could his family have done to make him hate them so much?"
"No idea." Taehyung answers back from the bedroom. "But it must be pretty bad if murder is the only answer."
"Tell me about it." The female detective mumbles almost to herself, her eyes landing on a family photo on the mantle. There's three children that look to be about elementary school age. Chantelle instantly recognizes Jungkook and Hana, both kids smiling widely as they stand in front of their parents. But the kid in between them, Hyunwoo presumably, looks miserable.
And this particular detail strikes Chantelle as extremely compelling. Maybe Hyunwoo was a troubled child?
"Chan, come here!" She jumps at the sound of Taehyung's voice, forgetting he was here for a moment.
Then she steps out of the living room, entering Jungkook's bedroom. Taehyung is sitting criss crossed on the floor with what looks to be a photo album in his hands.
"What?" She takes a seat next to him, leaning closer so she can see what he's looking at.
"Letters from Hyunwoo to Jungkook. All signed with a smiley face." Taehyung flips through the album, revealing pages upon pages of letters, all encased in the plastic.
Chantelle starts reading a particular part that instantly sticks out to her. "..can't believe they sent me away. I hate it here, Korea is so boring.."
"Hey! I take personal offense to that." Taehyung interrupts. Chantelle gives him an annoyed look before continuing.
"What does this say?" She asks, pointing to two words written in Korean.
"Halmeoni and harabeoji. It means grandma and grandpa."
She nods, turning her eyes back to the letter. "Grandma and grandpa hate me, they won't let me out the house.." Chantelle pauses, glancing up at Taehyung with a sudden revelation. "So he wasn't missing at all. They just sent him to live with his grandparents. Mrs. Jeon's parents, I'm assuming."
"That's why no one could find him." Taehyung nods. "He wasn't even in the country."
"Tell mom and dad I'm sorry. I'll be good if they let me come back home. I miss you, Kookie." Chantelle's heart aches as she continues reading. This child was ripped away from his home and siblings and sent to live thousands of miles away in a foreign country. It seems cruel, if you ask her.
She sighs heavily. "Let's take this and keep looking. I don't like being in this building for too long."
The two detectives continue to search for anything regarding Hyunwoo and they don't find much besides a few more family photos. Chantelle never felt as conflicted as she does in this very moment. Sure, Hyunwoo isn't innocent.
