"Ow..fuck." Chantelle winces as she steps out of the shower, trying her best to dry herself off without moving her arm too much. It has only been a little over a week since the incident and her wound is still healing.
It's been hard for her to adjust to living at home again, but she has no other choice. Just taking a shower on her own is exhausting but she refuses to let anyone else help with that. Nope, she's holding on to the little bit of dignity she has left.
She rests her good arm on the edge of the sink basin, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Although she's on paid leave due to her injury, she still looks extremely tired. Lifeless.
Chantelle tells herself it's because she's so passionate about her job that being off duty for so long is driving her crazy. But deep down, she knows that's not the case.
"Chantelle, honey? Can I come in?" The soft voice of her mother comes through from the other side of the bathroom door.
"Yeah, I'm ready." She replies, tightening her towel around her chest.
Her mother enters the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Then she starts to take out some supplies from under the sink.
"It looks better than yesterday." She comments, grabbing a q-tip and starting to clean around the wound.
"You think so?" Chantelle grits out through clenched teeth, tightening her grip on the edge of the sink.
"Mhm, it's not bleeding as much and the skin is starting to close up."
She doesn't answer, simply trying not to focus on the uncomfortable feeling. The skin is still very sensitive and the doctor told her it might take months to fully heal. Which means she's going to be dealing with this for a while.
"How's that handsome detective guy?" Her mother suddenly blurts out as she applies the antibiotic cream. "Have you heard from him?"
Chantelle's body stiffens. "Who, Taehyung?"
"Yeah, that's his name. He was such a sweet boy."
She knows that her family met Taehyung briefly the night that she got stabbed, but that part was a blur if she's being completely honest. It seems like he managed to make a good first impression, though.
"No, I haven't talked to him since he left." She admits, chewing on the inside of her cheek.
It's not that Chantelle doesn't want to talk to him, she just doesn't know if she should. She has more feelings for him than she's willing to admit to herself, which is exactly the problem. Carrying on a friendship will only make her get more attached to a man she will never see again.
It's better to just leave their relationship the way it is.
"I wonder what he's up to.." Chantelle's mother ponders out loud.
