Skyler's POV
"We have a lot yet to come,
Our tasks are impossible to some,
Let our souls roam and be free
For I am you, and you are me." I read off the paper a loud. I looked up from the paper at Lucas. "What do you think?"
Lucas scrunched up his nose and shook his head. "That doesn't sound like you."
I rolled my eyes and ripped the paper from my notebook. With a sigh I tossed it into the waste basket beside my bed that was overflowing with crumbled yellow peices of notebook paper. "That's the best I've got."
Lucas put his arm around my shoulder. "You'll find it. You know your vow doesn't have to rhyme, right?"
I wasn't listening to him. I was focusing on the tingling sensation that occured where his arm was. I grabbed my amulet and shoved it into my shirt before it changed to red.
Lucas looked at me like I was crazy. I changed the subject. "Um, so where is your amulet, anyways?"
He smiled and pointed to a military style kind of tag that ws dangling from a chain around his neck. "That's not an amulet! It's so plain, it's just a necklace." I pointed out.
His smile never faltered. "Look closer." I sighed and, ignoring the tingles, took the chain from around his warm neck and examined it. The surface looked smoothe from a distance but really up close it was carved with billions of designs and patterns that seemed to be telling a story around a small white gem in the middle. It is you. This tag described Lucas, smooth from a distance but actually complicated. He was a story that never ended. Lucas.
"It's beautiful," I whispered. "How did you come up with it?"
"I didn't, it just. . . happened." He shrugged.
And then we sat in silence for minutes as I turned the tag over and over again in my hand trying to comprehend the story that the necklace told. I couldn't understand anything.
Suddenly I looked up from the necklace and at his face that was studying my own. "Who are you?" I whispered.
He leaned in closer. "I wish that I knew." And with that I closed the space between us. The kiss was passionate and sent us both gasping for air.
He kissed me again and this one lasted for minutes. After a while I pulled away. "I know what to write."
* * *
"I promise to give, as I live,
As long as you provide, what you see fit through my eyes,
What I need, you must promise to me,
As I would promise the world to you." I read off the paper. I looked up at Isadora who grinned. I looked down at my amulet, was it me or was it getting hot? Ouch, yeah it's definitely getting hot. It was actually starting to burn my neck so I quickly ripped it off. It started to burn my hand so not knowing what to do with it, I tossed it into the air.
