A lot has changed since Ivy had moved to the United Kingdom. She hadn't been chased, or targeted in nearly three years. And she could finally breathe.
Ivy had spent the better part of her teens at a small, late-night café in muggle London. She was even able to afford a miniscule apartment not too far away from her place of work. The owner, Earl, never asked any questions. He had a hard time finding employees, and was more than happy to hire a teen down on her luck. Especially one as beautiful as Ivy.
She had always been told she was pretty, but in the later years Ivy had developed into quite a stunning woman, just like her mother. She had developed a curvy figure and strong posture. Not only was she stunning, but she was interesting to look at. As long as Ivy could remember, she had two different colored eyes that enticed everyone who peered into them. One a bright bottle green, the other a Caribbean blue.
While few customers came in on the regular, more had started to arrive because they heard that an enchanting young waitress had been hired. She especially brought in the late night crowd, seeking to nurse their drunkenness over a cup of coffee and good company.
Whether Earl liked to admit it or not, Ivy had brought in business. And he'd do anything to keep her employed. Even if that meant ignoring her immigration status and paying her under the table.
Ivy pulled her hair back into a high ponytail. Her obsidian-colored top half was now up, showing the white-gold locks that hid beneath. She had received a lot of compliments on her two-toned hair, people always asking where she got it done.
Her answer was always the same, at some place she vacationed a few years back. Self-dying afterwards to keep it looking fresh. People would never understand that her black and white hair was natural, and she would never dare to dye what her parents had given her.
Earl had gone home for the night, leaving her in charge of his café. He often trusted her with closing down his place of business by herself. Normally, his conscience would tell him not to leave an attractive 18-year old woman all alone at night. But Ivy had shown time and time again she could handle herself. Earl had watched her single-handedly take down a few frisky men who had her cornered in his small shop.
Earl learned that his employee had taken it upon herself to master self-defense classes to protect herself. And he didn't even know that she was a vicious opponent when it came to magic.
The café she worked at was decorated in an old American theme. Checkered countertops and floors with red booths along the rectangular shape. The counter stretched from wall to wall with five stools in front of it. A register sat off to one side and a glass case with pastries decorated the other.
Ivy was busy wiping down a checkered table when the door rang, alerting her to a new customer. She cleaned her hands on her apron and glanced up to see who had walked in. She nearly groaned, spotting the drunken regular who graced her with his presence almost every other night.
"Hi Gwen." He purred, taking off his faded red cap, exposing his unruly blonde hair.
"Michael." She breathed out in a greeting. Ivy straightened out her sky blue waitress dress and made her way behind the counter, putting space between her and the regular. She peered down at her nametag reading Gwen. This had been the name she chose to use rather than her real name, and stuck with it ever since.
Michael sauntered up to the counter, swaying a bit from how much alcohol he had consumed. From what she could tell, he was a few years older than her, a university student. She did a once over and noticed he had started to grow a blonde and bushy mustache, further making her inwardly cringe. His chiseled jaw bone flexed as he smiled and his grey eyes nearly dancing with anticipation.
