George was taken aback. "No?"
She disentangled herself from him and started to walk away, back towards the group. He was frozen for a moment. George didn't know what he was anticipating, but he certainly didn't expect her to flat out refuse.
They had come all this way to bring her back, and she wouldn't go. Even after hearing her screams. Screams that still echo in his head and heart.
Despite him pouring out how much he wanted her to stay, she still said no.
It made George wonder if all they really had was that one night. That it wasn't turning into something more regardless of all of the signs between them. George hated that doubt that seeped back into him. He truly had feelings for this girl, feelings that have never ran so deep.
He would have died for her. In fact, he almost just did.
Despite it all.
Her running away.
Her not coming back. And the pain he felt by her absence.
He would do it all over again. Just for those precious moments they shared together. He would still do anything for her. If she so much as snapped her fingers he would come crawling. If she told him to abandon everything he's ever known and follow her deeper into the forest, he would.
That revelation scared him. No, it terrified him. To just think she held so much power over him, made him nearly piss his pants. And she didn't even know.
"What do you mean you won't come back?" Ginny hugged her arms to her sides.
"I can't Gin. I'm sorry." Ivy couldn't look her friends in the eye.
"There's something more going on." Hermione deduced. "Ivy whatever it is, we can handle it. We can help you!"
"No." Ivy whispered, sinking her fingers into her fresh cut wound. She needed the pain to stabilize her, to keep her from giving in. To remind her what would happen if she went back.
Blood would be spilt, and it would be on her hands. It would be better for her to bear the pain alone.
"Ivy please don't do this. We are a team. Please just let us help you!" Ginny insisted.
George hung back, watching this all unfold. He spied blood starting to seep from her wound and down her hand. His heart dropped when he saw her clenching it so tightly. It appeared he was the only one who saw Ivy hurting herself. He rushed forward and tore her arm away gently, some of her blood getting on his sleeve.
Apparently, that was the last straw.
"You can't help me." She exploded, taking big steps away from the group. "No one can help me."
Even Castian backed up.
"That's not true—"
"Everyone I have ever loved dies. People who have helped me have died. People I don't even know who are near me, die. If that isn't enough for you to stay away I don't know what will." Ivy voice remained firm despite the tears building in her eyes. "I am dangerous. I'm cursed and I don't even know why. I will not be responsible for any more deaths. Especially not yours."
"Ivy..." Hermione's voice came out heartbroken.
"Just leave and never come back." Two more steps and she'd be gone, George knew it. He felt her slipping through his fingers. "Just stay far away from me."
One step.
"Ivy we won't give up one you." Tears were flowing freely down Ginny's cheeks. "I love you."
