There was a certain bliss in the fall.

There was an air of peace.

Something she hadn't felt in a long time.

She felt the inevitable ending, and it was. . .

Wonderful.

The wind rushing past her gave way to a deafening silence. Oh, how she loved the silence. Her mind had always moved a mile a minute, always calculating and thinking. But not here.

No.

Here. . . there was nothing.

No wondering what her next move was. No worry over what might happen.

Ivy closed her eyes, loving the feeling of the crisp air kissing her cheeks. She had forgotten the whole reason as to why she was even falling. She twisted midair and opened her eyes.

Dark rapids came fast approaching at her.

Oh right. That's why.

Ivy shifted the muscles in her back and moved her wings up and down, just like she had been practicing.

But she was still descending too fast. Her wings were crippling above her.

She really should've thought this through.

How could she have thought that by jumping off a cliff, she would know exactly what to do? Perhaps she had thought her instincts would take over.

Gone was the peaceful silence. Now all she heard was the river lapping against the cliff side.

Her heart thundered in her chest as she tried to force her wings to flap harder, to give way and let her fly.

But she wasn't used to the currents of the wind. Her wings continued to be battered by the force of her descent. It took everything she had just to keep them out and steady.

She was an idiot.

There were so many more factors that went into flying. She had relied too much on her intuition and memory.

Perhaps she'll die. That thought had never scared her. She had been prepared to die since the second she had lost her family.

But a thought that scared her, was never seeing her new family again. She had known it was a foolish thought. But just the idea of never hearing Neville snort with laughter. Feeling Ginny's gentle touch. Hermione's inquisitive comments. And George's warmth.

Ivy didn't think she could bear that pain. While her brain hated to admit it, her heart had taken upon a new family. And it already pained her to be away from them. But it was for the best. . . Right?

Ivy tried not to panic as within seconds, she would plunge into the icy river.

The best she could do was slow herself down so she wouldn't be killed on impact.

Hopefully.

At the last few seconds, Ivy hugged herself, brought her wings in close to her body, and held her breath. She was sure that if her wings weren't folded in, they might have snapped in two. And she didn't even want to imagine what kind of new pain that might bring.

The impact of her hitting the water caused her ears to pop as water rushed in. She had plunged deep into the water. Looking up, she could hardly see the moonlight up above. All she could see, was the depths below and around her.

The water was much colder than she thought it would be. It's ice ran up and down her veins, chilling her to the bone. Her body shivered, even under the water. The numbness started at her fingertips, until it spread to every crevice of her. Ivy felt her heart beat faster in an attempt to warm her body.
