"Look!" Neville cried out pointing to the forest floor. It was stained a darker color that the rest of the ground. George's nostrils flared with the metallic smell of. . .
"Blood." Hermione swallowed as she bent down and studied the pool. Her hand came back up with remnants of the red life-sustaining liquid.
"You don't think...?" Harry tugged at his hair.
"That's her knife." George observed. He picked through the pile of scattered robes. The shining metal bit into George's palm. There was a darker liquid underneath the robes.
"George." Ginny gulped as she held up a swatch of Ivy's jacket.
His heart quite literally skipped a beat.
"You guys. . ." Neville held back some foliage and pointed to the ground with his wand.
George forced himself to breathe as he focused on what Neville was pointing to. There were two long lines in the dirt.
"Drag marks." Hermione concluded with grave certainty. "And a trail of blood."
George looked ahead. His heart thundered at the amount of blood he's seen up to this point. It started to look grim. He couldn't help but think back to Dumbledore's warning.
Please be alive.
"Oh God." Ron said as he spied something else.
George pushed past all of his friends to see what Ron saw.
"Fuck." George choked out as he hurtled down the trail of Ivy's blood.
*******
Ivy felt like she was floating. Much different from when she discovered her knack for finding bodies.
Maybe this was what it felt like to die.
Maybe she already was dead.
She didn't care much, she just hoped Shadow had made it out.
Then she blacked out. Or died. She wasn't sure. She just stopped thinking all together.
*******
"George you have to wait." They called after him as he continued to sprint along the track of Ivy's drag marks.
"She could be dying!" He yelled over his shoulder.
He didn't know how, but Ginny managed to catch up to him, slowing him down.
"She could already be dead." Ron mumbled, cautiously looking around.
Harry thumped him on the back of the head. "Not helping."
"The trail has ended! It'll be dark soon, we can't stay here." Ron tried to reason with them.
"Alright what's your deal?" George stomped over and got in Ron's face.
"My deal?" Ron buckled a little under George's heated gaze.
George nodded as he fumed, nothing but adrenaline and terror fueling him.
"My deal is we're in this bloody forest searching for a girl we barely know!"
Out came the truth.
"I mean what do we even know about her. Truly?!" Ron looked at each and every one of them in the eye. "Ever since she got here, strange things have been happening. Not to mention these deaths." Ron threw up his hands when he talked. "Even bloody Dumbledore confirmed she's connected to these deaths."
