Chloe's Mistake And Ancestor

Alek's POV:

As Chloe's words sink in my arms feel like lead. Finally, I let go of her arms and my arms fly to my sides. My Chloe is in danger. I just know it. "We need to go get Amy. Maybe she can help. I don't care what we do, Chloe! I want to get you out of here for now!" Chloe opens her mouth to respond, but a ringtone that we have never heard before goes off for a second before Henry answers it. "Hello?" Chloe looks at me and we both nod as we tune into the call so we can hear the other person, too. "I'm going to visit you, my dear. What's your address?" We don't hear a thing for a second and then Henry finally answers. "Actually, I'm at a friend's house, grandma." We hear Jasmine tell him that his grandma can come here and we both smile at her kindness. "Okay! Grandma, my friend says you can come here." We go out to the living room and Jasmine raises her eyebrows. "Alek and I need to go do something. Will you be good here?" By now Chloe and I aren't paying any mind to the phone call. "Alek, where is my mom?" I hand her the notes I found in the kitchen. "One note is from Kai." I want to get out of here so bad. The longer Chloe stays here the more danger she's in. "Chloe and I really do need to go though, Jas." I wrap my arm around Chloe's waist and we speed walk out the door. We cringe when it closes loudly, but keep walking. Once we get outside, I remove my arm from her waist and we sprint towards Amy's house. I realize I don't know where I'm going and fall behind so I can follow Chloe.

Ding! Dong! We try one more time and finally Amy answers. "Hey! Sorry. I was in the shower. Paul and I have a date tonight." I groan as the world conspires against me to keep the love of my life in danger. Amy looks at me with daggers in her eyes and I realize she misinterpreted the groan. "Ummm, excuse me?" I walk inside her house and I hear Chloe's heartbeat right behind me as she follows. Amy closes the door. "I might be in danger. I didn't get an empathy hit from Henry." Amy covers her mouth and runs over to Chloe. "Oh my gosh, Chloe! Are you okay?!" I watch Chloe put her hands on her shoulders. "Amy, I didn't get hurt. I just couldn't make my...superpower work. I need to stay with you for a while." Amy nods and grabs her keys. "Okay! Let's go get your stuff." She runs out the door in her oversized T-shirt, pajama pants, and slippers and we follow her. We all get in her car and speed back to the penthouse. A car pulls out in front of traffic as we pull in. I study the car, but before I can hear what is going on inside the car it is out of sight. Amy parks the car and I run upstairs to our penthouse. Jasmine opens the door and I storm in. "Chloe didn't get an empathy hit off Henry!" Jasmine just stares at me and smirks. "You know just because she doesn't get an empathy hit off everyone she meets doesn't mean they pose a threat, right?" I'm about to answer when I see long golden hair and short black hair walk past me. "Chlo, get packed." Chloe turns around and looks at me. "I trust Henry. Jasmine is right. He probably isn't a threat." I curse under my breath and go in my room. I don't leave for a couple of hours.

I wake up to screaming and run into the hallway. The place is completely dark and I adjust my seeing. I hear heartbeats and follow them. When I get to the doorway of the living room I lean against the wall and am about to pounce on the source of one heartbeat when I see the TV on. Scream is on the screen and I immediately understand the situation. Chloe's head whips around and smiles. "Alek, come snuggle with me." I shake my head and go back to my room. I just can't believe Chloe and Jasmine don't see what I see in Henry. I hear my door open and Chloe's heartbeat gets closer and closer to my bed until I feel her arm around my stomach and her body press against my back. "Alek? I'm gonna go with Amy. I love you." I sigh and turn over. Her face is so close to mine that I can feel her breath on my face. Damn! I want to kiss her breathless! "I love you, Chlo." She smiles and brushes her lips against mine. I groan and cup her neck with my hand so I can kiss her passionately. Chloe pulls away first and smiles. "I need to go." I sit up and look down at her. "Do you really want to?" She sits up and I move so I don't headbutt her. "I have to, but I don't want to. Are you going to guard me tonight from Amy's roof?" I nod and smirk as I run a hand over her stomach. "Maybe we can have a little make out session up there later." Chloe blinks and I grin. "Ummm..." She shakes her head to clear it. "ALEK PETROV, ARE YOU CRAZY?!" I laugh and she runs out the door. I sigh and fall back on my bed.

Now that Chloe is gone my mind turns to darker thoughts. Chloe trusts Henry. Chloe is going to die again if I don't do something soon. I jump up and run out the door. She needs me at Amy's house. I leave the safety of my home and think about where I'm supposed to go. Without warning, a glowing light appears and revolves around me rapidly before stopping in the direction I know we went earlier. Curious, I follow it and before I know it Chloe's heartbeat and Amy's voice ring in my ears. The light stops above a house and I start making my way to the roof. As I climb up to the top I see Chloe framed in a window. I'm in the right place. How did I get here though? The light is gone when I reach the top and I don't dwell on it as I sit down. I need to focus so The Order doesn't get her. I keep watch for two hours and when I know it's safe I let my mind wander to the consequences of our uprising. We didn't lose our powers instantly if we didn't take part in the uprising. One Mai woman didn't lose her powers at all, but she turned on us. The first rogue Mai. There were rumors that she suffered until she agreed to help The Order. We never figured out the information she gave them.

We just started to become easier targets. Our empathy never worked consistently and finally it never worked. Our powers had officially been stripped from us. The rogue Mai died and no one knows what offspring she could've produced. Offspring who didn't lose the powers. We tested every Mai found for the powers. None of them ever had any. Then Chloe was born, but she slipped under our radar until now. Two things happen at the same time and either one could've caused my reaction, but I'm not positive which one it is. I realize that I'm in love with the rogue's descendant and a hand grabs the edge of the roof. I jump to my feet from one of those and when I'm standing I can see Chloe pulling herself up. I grab her and help her up. "Thanks, Alek." I stay silent as I think about what I've learned. It makes sense that she is the Uniter since her ancestor is what ultimately divided the humans and the Mai. Her ancestor betrayed the Mai to help the humans. I shake my head and realize my mistake when Chloe's eyes follow the movement. "Alek, what is it? What's wrong?" I see her take a step forward and I back away from her. "Chloe, I think you should leave California. No. Leave America and never return."

AN: Wow! 23 chapters! Votes and comments keep them coming so hit that button! I justified the fact that a rogue Mai suddenly "got her powers back" because in the TV show it seems like after...whatever happened between the Mai and humans the Mai just got their powers taken away like a light switch being turned off. What IS the origin of the Uniter? I guess I just made one! ;)
