Alek's POV:

I toss and turn in my bed as I think about Chloe. She shouldn't throw her lives away whenever my life is at risk. It's my job to die for her and I would gladly do just that. I hear Chloe's heartbeat and I get up to go sit in her room. My eyes adjust to the dark with ease and I let her heartbeat guide me to her even though I know exactly where she is. I finally reach her and soundlessly enter her room. I see a chair in the corner of her room. I carefully walk past her sleeping form and sit down. I wonder if I should ask Valentina to get more Mai to protect Chloe. I get up and slowly make my way over to her. I stare at her for a minute and smile. She'd hate me for getting more people to protect her lives. She wouldn't be able to use some of them to save mine. I kiss her forehead and go back to the chair. I listen to the coming storm and it gets more and more intense. The thunder gets so loud that I'm scared it will wake Chloe. BOOM! I see her jerk awake and sit very still so she won't hear me. Thunder sounds again and she sits up swiftly. She sighs and then spots me in the chair. She stares right at me and I wonder if she'd respect my wish for her not to die for me again. I know there's a chance this will turn into a huge fight. "Hey!" I shake my head as her voice pulls me back to reality and smile at her. "Hey, Chlo!" She suddenly gets out of bed and sits in my lap. "Okay! What's up?"

I guess my smile was a bit tense. I wrap my arms around her waist and sigh as I look in her gorgeous eyes. I don't even know where to start. "Promise me something!" She flashes me a smile and leans in. I resist the burning urge to kiss her. "Anything, Alek!" I finally give in to my longing and pull away before my visit to her room becomes a make out session. "What happened yesterday...it can't happen again! Promise me you won't die for me-" I see the panic in Chloe's eyes as I speak and she kisses me to stop what I'm saying. She sighs after pulling away. I know exactly what she will say. "Anything, but that!" I lift her up and set her down on her feet before pacing around her room. I know I look like a crazy person. I think of what to say very carefully. "Chloe-" She is in front of me in a second and covers my mouth with her hand. "Alek, listen to me! I'd rather lose a life than lose you! I am in love with you and I won't let you die for me!" I feel like I'm on a cloud when she tells me she loves me. I try to talk, but it comes out as a mumble. She finally removes her hand. "It's my JOB, Chloe! I'm so in love with you that I don't care if I fulfill my duty and die saving you!" I hear my voice getting louder by the second and Chloe hushes me and motions toward the balcony off the guest bedroom we're arguing in. We walk out into the rain and I hear the door close. "Alek, I swear if you die protecting me it will be a waste of time! I'll kill myself!" By now, we're both soaking wet. Neither of us cares though because of the words that are coming out of our mouths. "When I die saving you I won't let myself leave the earth and I will tell Valentina to watch over you as a ghost. Damn, Chloe! Why are you making it so hard for me to do my job? Huh?" I can't stop the words coming out of my mouth as I see tears form in her eyes. She runs inside crying and I follow her. I feel bad for making her cry. I don't know what to say so I close the door to the balcony and walk out of her room in a huff.

A few days later:

I sit across the table from Chloe and she awkwardly takes a bite of her pizza. This is how it's been for the past three days. I miss Chloe so much. "Amy, didn't you want to go buy a new dress for your date with Paul?" Amy perks up and it's obvious this is just a way to break the awkwardness Chloe and I are creating. "That's right, Jasmine! Chloe, come with-" I see Chloe stand up before Amy can finish talking and I look at her in shock. She smiles, but I know it's at the face I'm making at her. "Gladly, ladies!" I watch her grab her purse and Amy and Jasmine walk out the door. I want to say something to her, but I can't find the courage to until she starts to walk to the door. I say her name and she stops. She slowly turns around to look at me. "Be careful!" She smiles again and this time I know it is at me. "Always am! Alek, even though we're fighting..." I raise an eyebrow at her to show that I want her to finish that thought. "Just know that I love you!" I smile and wink at her. I had a feeling she'd say that. "Now was that so hard?" She takes a step closer to me and the love she feels for me is shining in her eyes. I don't even think she realizes that she wears her emotions in those deep eyes of hers. "It was easy." I nod. "Good! I love you, too, Chlo! So much!" She sighs and steps closer to the door. "We'll talk later, Alek!" I nod and watch her walk out the door. I'm about to call a friend when I hear Amy's shrill voice outside the door. "It's so cute how even though you're fighting, you can't help telling each other how you feel!" I smile at Amy's comment and know I'm gonna tease Chloe about it. "Amy, let's go!"
