Someone Is Coming

Mỷrἇ woke with Jåcóbӱ curled around her.  She sighed as it felt like old times.  Jåcóbӱ has always kept her safe when they were sleeping.  Her mother hated it, but their father had said that it was acceptable amongst his people.  They saw nothing wrong with siblings or cousins sleeping together or even marrying each other.  To them it was natural.

"Jåcóbӱ," Mỷrἇsaid as she rolled over and shook her brother's shoulder.  He groaned and flopped over on his back.  "Jåcóbӱ, wake up!" Mỷrἇ shook his shoulder again and he finally opened his eyes.

"What is it Mỷrἇ?" He asked sleepily.

        "I'm hungry."

Jåcóbӱ groaned again before he sat up.  He yawned and stretched which caused his shirt to hike up.  Myra watched the play of muscles in Jåcóbӱ's arms as he stretched.  She knew how strong Jåcóbӱ was and she felt sorry for the people who made the mistake of angering Jacoby.   Jåcóbӱ stood up abruptly and hauled Mỷrἇ roughly to her feet.

        "Ow!  Jåcóbӱ you're hurting me!"

Jåcóbӱ loosened his grip, but didn't let go of her arm.  His eyes were busy scanning the endless grasslands.  The silence was unnerving.  Nothing was heard except the wind through the grass and even that was muted.  It was as if the entire prairie was trying to be quiet.

        "Jåcóbӱ?"

        "Shh Mỷrἇ."

Mỷrἇ looked about herself and unconsciously drew closer to her brother.  Fear raced through Mỷrἇ at the distant sound that reached their ears.  Her fingers clutched at Jåcóbӱ's shirt as she recognized the sounds.  They were the sounds of a hunting party.  They were still far enough away that they couldn't see them, but close enough that they could hear them.

"What are we going to do Jacoby?" Mỷrἇ whispered.

"Run," was all that Jåcóbӱ said before he grabbed Mỷrἇ's hand and pulled her through the tall grasses.  Mỷrἇ stumbled before she caught herself and tugged her hand free of Jåcóbӱ's.  Mỷrἇ's long legs  came in handy as she kept easy pace with Jåcóbӱ.  They fled away from the rising sun not knowing that they were being followed by the man who had come upon them the night before.
