Mỷrἇ was having a good dream. She was in the middle of a strange forest with buildings scattered throughout the forest floor. A celebration was going on. Revelers danced and singers sang glorious songs. Both Jåcóbӱ and Ştårbrîghţ were there. They were talking to a man and woman dressed in clothes made of feathers. A handsome young man approached her with an easy smile. Just as he leaned in to kiss her Mỷrἇ was jolted awake.
Mỷrἇ's eyes snapped open just as a hand descended on her mouth. Jåcóbӱ held his finger up to his lips and let go of her hammock. Jåcóbӱ's hammock swung away from Mỷrἇ's as he pointed to the ground. Mỷrἇ leaned over the edge of her hammock as it swung gently. Her eyes widened as she saw shadows moving on the ground below them. Her shocked gaze flew to Jåcóbӱ's when she heard Ştårbrîghţ's voice drift up to them.
"You are not supposed to be here," Ştårbrîghţ hissed.
A rumbling growl greeted his words. A man reached forward and grabbed him by the front of his shirt. "I will come and go as I please."
Ştårbrîghţ pulled himself free of the man. "Quiet man! I have drugged the two, but they could still wake."
Mỷrἇ ducked back into her hammock as their eyes reached skyward. Mỷrἇ lay quietly and listened with bated breath as the men continued speaking. Her eyes sought her brother and found him watching her. He motioned for her to be quiet and Mỷrἇ nodded her head.
"I want them."
"And you'll have them. Give me two more weeks. They are strong willed. It'll take that long for the poison to weaken them. They are already beginning to feel the effects. If I give them enough they will do nothing but sleep. That will give me time to disable some of the traps."
"Two weeks," the gravely voiced man growled. "Not a moment longer. My Lord has waited four years to find these two. They cannot be allowed to come into their powers."
"They won't. You have my word," Ştårbrîghţ assured the man.
Mỷrἇ peeked over the edge of her hammock to see the one man start to leave. He paused and turned back to Ştårbrîghţ. "Tell me traitor. How did you defeat Dárkmëre?"
Ştårbrîghţ shrugged. "I killed him on a hunt. After I killed him, I went in search of his wife and children. I didn't know that Äçåçiå had seen me kill Dárkmëre. I went in search of her, but arrived at her home after she'd already fled with her children. Äçåçiå had already stashed the children somewhere by the time that I'd caught up with her. She refused to tell me even as I tortured her for information."
The man grunted as he turned. "Do not cross me Ştårbrîghţ," the man growled. "You'll regret it if you do."
Mỷrἇ looked at Jåcóbӱ with fear in her eyes. Jåcóbӱ gave her a reassuring smile. Mỷrἇ tried to smile back at him. Mỷrἇ could see Jåcóbӱ sigh. He shifted his weight till he was able to swing over and grab her hammock. Jåcóbӱ held onto Mỷrἇ's hammock till she had crawled into his hammock. Mỷrἇ snuggled up close to Jåcóbӱ as they swung gently in the trees. Jåcóbӱ wrapped his arms around her and placed a brotherly kiss on the top of her head.
"Sleep sweet sister. We'll figure out what to do in the morning."
Mỷrἇ yawned as Jåcóbӱ started to hum the lullaby that their mother had sang to them when they were little. Mỷrἇ felt her eyelids turn heavy as she fought sleep. She lost the battle and gave a sigh as she fell asleep. Her dreams were dredged from the depth of the see of dreams. Her dreams dealt with suppressed memories of fear as her mother fled with her and Jåcóbӱ through the dark and stormy night.
