"DAMN IT, LISA." matthew said as he stood in the kitchen as lisa poured herself a cup of coffee. "what the hell does he have to offer her?"
"they are going to be fine." lisa said, leaning on the counter and standing in front of her husband. "she's 23 years old, she has a job, and most importantly, he's gonna take care of her."
"bullshit!" matt scoffed. "if he would've really taken care of her, he wouldn't have knocked her up!"
"matthew, please calm down." lisa said, placing her coffee cup down.
"that kid came into her life and messed her up." matthew said, pacing around the living room and looking at a picture of 5-year-old bella. "she's not the girl she used to be. the little girl that had big dreams and goals."
"matthew, she's not a little girl anymore." lisa said as she sat him down in front of her. "in our eyes, she'll always be our little girl, but she's not a teenager, much less a baby; she's a 23-year-old woman. now, she met this boy whom she fell in love with and he with her. they love each other so much that they're willing to own up to this and raise a baby."
"stop sugar-coating it, lisa." matthew said as he was close to tears. "she's knocked up, thanks to him. that kid doesn't know a damn thing about being a father, considering his father–"
"matthew, stop it!" lisa raised her voice, scolding her husband. "give him a chance. give them a chance, for bella's sake. they're both adults, they'll figure it out."
"why do you like him so much?" matthew sighed. "why are you always defending him?"
"because he's a kid who fell for bella and treats her right. he confides in her and she in him." lisa said. "i don't know about you, but i would much rather see bella with a guy who's a little rough around the edges, but still treats her right, than with a guy who might have all the money in the world, yet treats her like shit. you tell me what you would like for your daughter."
matthew remained silent as he held the picture of bella in his hands. "and if you had forgotten, this fit that you're throwing? my father had the exact same one when i got pregnant with bella." lisa said.
"elizabeth, don't compare bella's situation to ours." matthew said. "i was in med school and had a job."
"we were knee-deep in debt because of our studies, but that didn't stop us from having bella." lisa sighed. "even though, we were both studying and we both had jobs, that didn't stop my father from freaking out about my pregnancy. it's the same thing. they're gonna be okay, you just have to trust them."
